Korean netizens have reacted negatively to tripleS’s encore stage for their first win.
On May 14, 2024, tripleS achieved their first victory on “The Show”with their song “Girls Never Die.”Scoring a total of 7,200 points, tripleS emerged as the winner over YOUNITE’s “GEEKIN”and Kim Jaehwan’s “Amaid.”
The girl group was visibly moved, with multiple members shedding tears as they received the trophy. From their heartfelt acceptance speech to their encore performance, the members appeared to be overcome with emotion upon winning their first music show. Fans of the group were also touched, joyfully congratulating them on their victory.
Nevertheless, the group’s encore stage did not please everyone.
On May 14, 2024, a user on the popular South Korean online community forum TheQoo uploaded a post titled “tripleS’s first #1 encore stage”. The post contained a tweet showcasing the girl group’s encore stage, which included all 24 members of the group.

Despite consisting of 24 members, the girl group received criticism for their live vocal skills. Many pointed out that at least one member should be a strong singer. Korean netizens compared their encore performance to a high school retreat, noting the large number of members on stage and their synchronized singing of the chorus, with each member having short individual parts. Some went as far as to say it was the worst encore stage in their experience.
Some people thought that instead of being called idols, they should be referred to as performers. This is because idols are typically known for their vocal abilities, but tripleS’s concept was perceived to be based more on the number of members and their appearance rather than their talent.
One particular member, Chaeyeon, received criticism. During the encore performance, she let out a loud scream that contrasted with the other members’ sweet singing on stage. While Korean netizens understood her excitement, they questioned the necessity of her screaming.
