Recently, it was announced that tripleS is already receiving payment for their work, causing a mix of reactions among Korean netizens.
One of the most popular South Korean online community forums, Instiz, shared a post titled “tripleS are already receiving a wage”on May 18, 2024.
The original poster pointed out that the rookie girl group tripleS, consisting of 24 members under MODHAUS, is currently receiving a salary. However, there may be an unequal distribution of pay among the members, with the more popular members potentially receiving higher salaries while the less popular members may be treated as newcomers in the company.
Despite international fans being pleased to hear that the members are making money, the news has sparked mixed reactions from Korean netizens due to the way in which the members are expected to earn their income.
A significant portion of their income is generated through the sales of Objekts, which are tripleS’s version of photo cards. These photo cards can be purchased digitally through the Cosmo app and are classified as NFTs. However, they do not function as traditional NFTs as they cannot be traded in the market. Instead, fans can use them to obtain COMO, a voting token that allows them to have a say in the future activities of tripleS.
Each Objekt is priced at $2.99 USD. It is evident that the digital photo cards of more popular members sell more, while those of less popular members do not sell as much.
Some Korean netizens have expressed their discontent with the fact that a large portion of the tripleS members’ income comes from Objekt and photo card sales. They argue that this places pressure on fans to purchase these items, making it seem as though they have no other option if they want to support their favorite members financially.
Despite the fact that pay discrepancies can create tensions within the group, others also pointed out that it can also lead to larger differences between salaries.
Despite this, there were those who were content with the fact that they were earning money. While sub-units began to debut in 2022, the group officially debuted as a whole on May 8, 2024, making them rookies in the industry. The fact that they were able to generate income at such an early stage in their career allows the members to start saving and investing earlier.
Several comments stated,
- “Ha, it’s because the photo card sales go directly to their paycheck.”
- “But their salary comes from their photo card sales, right?”
- “I think it’s the worst that they earn from photo card sales… It feels like they are urging the fans to buy their stuff.”
- “Wow…”
- “What a relief.”
- “Well, they sell a lot of albums too.”
- “I was looking at another group and it is taking them a long time to get paid. It’s nice that tripleS are getting paid right away.”
