Ninja Gaiden 2 Black recently made waves in the gaming community when Team Ninja and KOEI TECMO decided to surprise fans with its release during the Xbox Developer Direct event. Accompanied by the announcement of a new installment in this iconic franchise, this game developed on Unreal Engine has arrived with significant buzz. While the title itself is largely well-received, there are some shortcomings. One such limitation is the ultrawide monitor support, which, although present during gameplay, is marred by unsightly black bars during in-game cutscenes. Fortunately, the dedicated effort of a member from the widescreen community, known as Rose, has led to a solution that addresses this specific issue.
Resolving the Ultrawide Cutscene Problem in Ninja Gaiden 2 Black
The intervention offered by Rose successfully enhances the ultrawide experience by eliminating pillar boxing during cutscenes, streamlining the visual experience for players using ultrawide or larger monitors. With this patch, players can expect a cohesive and immersive environment.
Applying Rose’s patch is a user-friendly process. Here’s how you can quickly install it:
- Visit the GitHub page available here.
- Download the patch file named Ninja. Gaiden.2. Black.ultrawide.v1.0.zip, which can be found under the Assets section.
- Extract this zip file into your Ninja Gaiden 2 Black installation directory.
Steam: \NINJAGAIDEN2BLACK\Binaries\Win64
Xbox App (Game Pass): \NINJAGAIDEN2BLACK\Binaries\WinGDK
- After installation, launch Ninja Gaiden 2 Black and set the Display mode to Borderless. This will ensure the patch functions correctly.
- Alternatively, you can switch the Display mode to Fullscreen and then close the game. Modify the ResolutionX and ResolutionY settings in the GameUserSettings.ini file located in the following directories:
Steam: %LOCALAPPDATA%\NINJAGAIDEN2BLACK\Saved\Config\
Xbox App (Game Pass): %LOCALAPPDATA%\NINJAGAIDEN2BLACK\Saved\Config\WinGDK\
Upon completing these steps, players should enjoy cutscenes without the annoyance of black bars. A screenshot shared by Rose illustrates the effectiveness of the patch during one of the opening cutscenes:

Rose’s contribution is noteworthy, as she conducted extensive testing of the patch at both 2560×1080 and 3840×1080 resolutions, ensuring optimal performance.
If you find that the patch is not to your liking, you can easily uninstall it by deleting the extracted files from the Ninja. Gaiden.2. Black.ultrawide.v1.0.zip. Currently, there are no reported issues with this patch, and it seems unlikely that an official update from the developers will follow. This is primarily due to the potential complications that could arise from removing pillar boxing in other cutscenes.
