Split Fiction has emerged as one of the standout titles of 2025, further solidifying Hazelight Studios’ position in the gaming industry. With impressive sales of over one million copies within just two days of its release, the game exemplifies the growing popularity of co-op gaming experiences. Players are treated to a rich narrative, interspersed with cinematic cutscenes that complement the intense gameplay.
For those gaming on ultrawide monitors, there are some limitations: while gameplay is fully supported, cutscenes regrettably experience pillarboxing. Fortunately, there’s a way to enhance your experience by fixing the cutscene display issues. Here’s a comprehensive guide on how to enjoy Split Fiction seamlessly on your ultrawide setup while maintaining a consistent experience.
Enhancing Cutscene Experience on Ultrawide Monitors
When playing Split Fiction on PC, users with ultrawide setups will find that while the game supports the wider format during gameplay, cutscenes are restricted. To resolve this, we’ll employ HxD, a hex editor that allows for modification of executable files.
Don’t worry; the process is straightforward and doesn’t require advanced technical skills!
- First, download HxD. This tool is essential for editing hex values of the game’s executable, enabling you to tweak different elements to your preference.
- After installing HxD, launch the program and go to File followed by Open.
- Next, navigate to the location of the Split Fiction executable by using the following path:
\common\Split Fiction\Split\Binaries\Win64
- With the executable open, you will see numerous values within the HxD interface. There’s no need to be intimidated by this view.
- Press Ctrl + R, which will prompt a small window to appear.
- In the new window, select the Hex-values tab and input the following in the Search for field:
39 8E E3 3F
- In the Replace with field, enter the hex value corresponding to your desired resolution. Below are some common values:
Resolution | Hex Value |
---|---|
2560×1080 | 26 B4 17 40 |
3440×1440 | 8E E3 18 40 |
3840×1600 | 9A 99 19 40 |
5120×2160 | 26 B4 17 40 |
6880×2880 | 8E E3 18 40 |
3840×1080 | 39 8E 63 40 |
3840×1440 | AB AA 2A 40 |
5120×1440 | 39 8E 63 40 |
- For additional hex values, you can refer to this resource.
- For demonstration, let’s say you choose the hex value for 3440×1440, which is 8E E3 18 40. It should look like this:

- Ensure to set the Search direction to “All” and click on Replace all.
- Finally, press Ctrl + S to save the updates to the executable.
After completing these steps, the next time you start Split Fiction, cutscenes should display perfectly on your ultrawide monitor, free from pillarboxing or black bars.
If you encounter any issues during this process, consider verifying the integrity of the game files via the Steam client:
- Open Steam and go to your Library.
- Right-click on Split Fiction and select Properties.
- In the Installed Files tab, click on Verify integrity of game files.
Note that future game updates might reset your changes, necessitating a repeat of this process.
