Path of Exile 2 has officially launched in early access for PC and consoles, and reports affirm that it performs admirably across all platforms. The PC version, in particular, stands out due to its extensive support for various upscaling technologies, compatibility with controllers, and a multitude of adjustable graphics options. Additionally, it accommodates ultrawide monitors with a maximum aspect ratio of 21:9, although this results in black bars appearing on the sides for users with wider screens. Fortunately, the community has responded, with a dedicated patch by Rose addressing the ultrawide constraint in Path of Exile 2.
Resolving the Ultrawide Screen Limitation in Path of Exile 2
The patch developed by Rose offers improved ultrawide support for aspect ratios that exceed 21:9. For players utilizing super ultrawide setups, such as those with a 32:9 ratio, this enhancement will effectively eliminate the black bars, allowing for a more immersive gaming experience.
Installing this patch is straightforward and can be accomplished in just a few steps:
- Navigate to the designated GitHub page.
- Download the patch file by selecting Path.of.Exile.2.ultrawide.v1.0.zip under the Assets section.
- Extract the contents of the zip file to your Path of Exile 2 installation directory.
Upon re-launching Path of Exile 2, the game will now be displayed correctly on screens with aspect ratios greater than 21:9. Below is a screenshot demonstrating the game in full ultrawide glory, kindly provided by Rose:
All credit for this significant enhancement goes to Rose, who meticulously created and tested the patch for various resolutions, including 5120×1440 and 5760×1080.
While the patch performs commendably in most scenarios, players may observe slight background distortions with some static assets. However, these visuals are generally not distracting, allowing for an enjoyable gaming experience.
If you decide to revert the changes implemented by the patch, simply delete the extracted files from your Path of Exile 2 installation folder. This solution is entirely safe and does not interfere with any online functionalities.
At this time, it’s unlikely that the developers will add support for super ultrawide monitors, as doing so would require significant modifications to manage backgrounds and assets, which may not be a priority based on user demand.
