True Detective: Season 5 confirmed, with the showrunner of Night Country

The True Detective series has been officially renewed for a season 2 by HBO, and Issa Lopez will return to the helm after season 4, Night Country.

Season 4 of True Detective will have broken many records, whether good or bad. The fourth installment was indeed the most watched, and yet its final episode proved divisive, dividing viewers and obtaining the franchise’s worst rating on IMDb.

The season, led by Jodie Foster and Kali Reis, was however a good surprise overall, despite the change of showrunners. Because after the departure of Nic Pizzolatto at the head of the creative team, it was Issa Lopez who was chosen to take over the reins. And it seems that despite the reception of the last episode of season 4, HBO appreciated the job.

Season 5 of True Detective validated by HBO

HBO has officially confirmed the return of the True Detective series in season 5. Issa Lopez, showrunner of Night Country, will once again be responsible for directing the next episodes. However, nothing has been revealed at this stage about the subject that will be chosen for the story.

It was also suggested that the showrunner wouldn’t just handle Season 5 of True Detective. According to the words collected by The Hollywood Reporter from Francesca Orsi, head of series at HBO, “Issa Lopez is one of those unique and rare talents who speak directly to the creative mind of HBO. […] We are so lucky to have her in our family.” Spectators could therefore well find her on other projects.

The seasons of True Detective leaving time between each release, there is nothing to determine the date of the fifth chapter, nor its subject. However, the showrunner spoke to The Hollywood Reporter, suggesting that she already had an idea in mind in the event that she would be chosen to handle season 5.
