TWICE Jihyo’s Experience with Almost Debuting as a Member of SNSD + Hyoyeon’s Expresses Regret

Did you know that Jihyo was almost not chosen as the leader of TWICE? In fact, she was going to be the youngest member of Girls’ Generation if THIS hadn’t happened!

On July 31, the web segment “Hyoyeon who buys us food well”of SNSD Hyoyeon’s official YouTube channel, “Hyo’s Level Up,”released Ep. 7.

On that day, she warmly received her junior idol, TWICE Jihyo, who is a member of JYP Entertainment.

During the discussion, the two celebrities reminisced about their time as trainees at a young age. Jihyo revealed that she had started as a trainee at SM Entertainment before transitioning to JYP and remaining there for 19 years.

Jihyo initiated:

“But there’s something I want to tell you. Actually, I met you when I was a baby. I remember this really well and this is the first time I’m talking about it, but I was a trainee at JYP for 10 years, and before that, I was at SM for a year.”

Despite being only eight years old at the time and having vague memories, Jihyo continued to recount what she could recall and said:

“I don’t know if I can say this, but this is the first time I’ve revealed it. At the time, you were there, and some of my Girls’ Generation sunbaenim. They told me I was cute and all.

I think the one I remember was YoonA sunbaenim. I was so young that I couldn’t remember. But she had a CD or something. Since I was a baby, my face must have been small. They were comparing the size of my face with the CD. I vividly remember the scene where they said, ‘You are so cute.”

Jihyo revealed that she had only trained at SM for a year and when questioned about her departure, the up-and-coming idol simply responded:

“The person who cast me moved from SM to JYP. We ended up going together.”

Based on this information, Hyoyeon declared that if Jihyo had stayed, she would have become a member of SNSD, saying:

“But if you had stayed at SM, you might have been in Girls’ Generation. With that experience… because there are members who joined after 2005 among the Girls’ Generation members. It’s really interesting. If I had known, I would have held onto you. Telling you not to go, to stay together. Anyway, it seems, we weren’t meant to be together then.”

After the show, in an interview, Hyoyeon also shared her disappointment in not being able to make her debut with Jihyo, stating:

“If Jihyo had not left, she could have become one of our members. Jihyo almost became part of the Girls’ Generation. But TWICE is so good right now. But it would have been great if she hadn’t left. We really missed out.”
