TWICE Jihyo Faces Backlash For ‘Parodying’ Tzuyu’s Flag Incident Apology
According to Matilda Tao, one factor that was brought up was Jihyo’s supposed parody of Tzuyu’s apology for the flag incident. Tzuyu had previously caused controversy when she waved the Taiwan flag on the show “My Little Television,”leading to her having to film an apology video. This incident resulted in backlash from Chinese netizens who accused her of promoting Taiwan’s independence from China.
Allegedly, Jihyo imitated Tzuyu’s apology as a preview for her upcoming variety show. It was observed that she was dressed in the same attire as Tzuyu, sporting long, black-sleeved tops. Both also had their hair styled in a messy ponytail. Furthermore, both clips were shot in front of a plain wall and showcased the idols apologizing for a similar wrongdoing.

Matilda Tao strongly criticized this decision, stating, “By creating a teaser that mocked Tzuyu’s suffering, did you consider the consequences? Did you find it entertaining? I doubt anyone would find it amusing. Did you believe it would generate more attention?”
After the release of the teaser for Jihyo’s variety show, there was a strong backlash from viewers. The production team quickly responded by apologizing and removing the clip from the video. However, some noticed that they did not apologize specifically to Tzuyu. Matilda Tao then called out the team for their lack of consideration and care in handling the situation, as apologizing to Tzuyu would imply that they were intentionally targeting her.

JYP Entertainment Faces Backlash for Allegedly Mistreating TWICE Tzuyu
Furthermore, Matilda Tao expressed criticism towards JYP for their lack of promotion for Tzuyu. It was pointed out that Tzuyu has the second highest number of followers on Instagram among the members of TWICE, with a total of 13.2 million followers. Given this fact, it was argued that it only made sense for the more popular members to have more opportunities and activities.
Despite this, it seems that Tzuyu does not conform to this trend. Fans have pointed out that she does not have any brand endorsements and participates in the least amount of personal activities compared to the other members. It has also been observed that since 2021, Tzuyu has not been featured on any magazine covers as a solo artist. Furthermore, she has one of the smallest amount of lines in the group.
Despite it being Fashion Week season, Jeongyeon and Tzuyu were the only members of the group who did not attend any of the brands’ shows. This left Matilda Tao puzzled, especially considering Tzuyu’s renowned visuals, height, and figure in the K-pop industry. With her perfect aura for Fashion Week-related activities, it was surprising that JYP Entertainment never allowed her to participate.
Despite her relatively inactive schedule, Matilda Tao shared that Tzuyu is committed to renewing her contract with JYP Entertainment. Furthermore, Tzuyu personally expressed that she is treated with kindness by her fellow members. However, if the mistreatment persists, there is a possibility that TWICE may continue without Tzuyu, resulting in an eight-member group.
