Twitch Channels of PewDiePie, Shroud, and Lirik Banned Due to New Rules

Twitch Channels of PewDiePie, Shroud, and Lirik Banned Due to New Rules

PewDiePie, Shroud, and Lirik experienced a temporary ban on Twitch as part of a new policy aimed at combating impersonation.

On October 3, 2024, Twitch suspended the channels associated with PewDiePie, Shroud, and Lirik, which were streaming VOD content and videos from their respective creators for viewers. This streaming activity may have led to their bans due to the platform’s updated guidelines.

Throughout August and September 2024, both the Lirik and Shroud channels operated 24/7, gaining a significant following with thousands of followers and a steady viewership.

Shroud remains one of the top streamers on Twitch.

PewDiePie’s channel on Twitch, established in March 2023 after selling the rights to CoPilotMedia, has grown to attract over a million followers and has maintained a dedicated audience daily.

Interestingly, just under 15 minutes following the bans, Twitch reinstated all three channels, allowing fans to continue enjoying the content.

In early September, Twitch introduced an updated version of its Community Guidelines, clamping down on unoriginal content and impersonation practices.

While the precise reasons for the bans remain unclear, it is likely related to the newly implemented impersonation rules. The guidelines explicitly state that “Impersonation is a malicious practice that compromises trust in our service and can harm the target of impersonation.” This includes content that impersonates individuals, organizations, or any unauthorized channels.

Twitch mentioned “waiting room”streams as a prime example of violating these rules, as they often consist of unauthorized rebroadcasts of content from popular streamers—exactly what PewDiePie, Shroud, and Lirik were engaging in.

PewDiePie has faced Twitch bans twice before.

According to the Twitch Community Guidelines, “you may not create a ‘waiting room’ that suggests you are waiting for someone else’s stream if it does not include original content created by the channel owner.”

Although the Shroud and Lirik channels indicated they were spaces for fans to “hang out,”PewDiePie’s channel did not make similar claims. This incident marks another setback for PewDiePie’s channel, which had previously faced two mysterious bans shortly after its relaunch in March 2023.
