Twitch is finally enhancing transparency for streamers regarding bans by providing detailed information, including clips that pinpoint exactly where the violation took place.
Bans have sparked considerable controversy within the Twitch community, leading many users to demand greater clarity about infractions and urge the Amazon-owned platform to implement necessary changes.
Over the years, Twitch has made several updates to its platform policies, with CEO Dan Clancy acknowledging the urgent need for a comprehensive review of the ban system.
During TwitchCon 2024, the streaming giant revealed significant updates regarding bans, including a commitment to provide creators with more insight into the reasons behind their suspensions.
Streamers are set to receive more information about their bans.
“Starting with Chat, we’ll share the excerpt of Chat that contains the violation in the email you receive and in the appeals portal,” Twitch explained.
Additionally, Twitch plans to share clips of infractions, allowing streamers to understand precisely what happened during a stream or VOD and learn from their mistakes.
“If you believe our decision was incorrect, you can appeal,” they emphasized.
Twitch is also modifying how account strikes are managed, identifying that permanent strikes can be detrimental for streamers. The platform pointed out that for those who have been streaming for an extended time, a minor infraction could lead to severe repercussions, such as a ban.

Starting in 2025, strikes will begin to expire based on the severity of the violation. More information will follow as this feature approaches full implementation.
“These updates aim to enhance clarity regarding our enforcement actions and minimize the risk of streamers losing their livelihoods due to low-severity infractions,” the platform stated. “To clarify, we will continue to impose suspensions, including indefinite ones for severe violations.”
Currently, Twitch has not provided a specific timeline for when suspended streamers will receive clips to explain their bans; however, they have stated that account strikes will begin to expire in early 2025.
