Twitch Introduces Enforcement Notes Feature to Address Future Controversial Metas

Twitch has unveiled a proactive approach to tackle potential contentious “metas” on its platform through a new feature called “enforcement notes.”

Since its inception, Twitch has seen streamers worldwide shaping fresh trends. These trends can emerge from popular video games like Among Us or Fall Guys, or from streaming the latest television series or reacting to high-profile legal cases.

Often referred to as ‘metas,’ these trends can sometimes lead to significant controversy, resulting in content being removed from the platform.

To mitigate future issues, Twitch is launching its Enforcement Notes feature, aimed at clarifying the do’s and don’ts for streamers in advance.

In a statement shared on social media, the platform explained, “Today marks the introduction of Enforcement Notes—enhanced clarifications and examples within our Community Guidelines to facilitate better adherence to our policies.”

“Moving forward, we will utilize Enforcement Notes to illustrate how our rules apply to the various trends that appear on Twitch.”

Numerous enforcement notes have been incorporated into various sections of the Community Guidelines, with plans for more additions as new situations emerge.

For instance, one enforcement note in the Youth Safety section specifies that disclosing you are under 13 years of age can lead to account suspension.

“Mentioning you are below the age of 13 on Twitch, even jokingly, could lead to your account being permanently banned due to legal requirements,” the note states.

“Prohibited examples include comments like, ‘haHAA I’m 12 by the way,’ or, ‘I’m using my dad’s account because I am 11.’”

This update is part of Twitch’s ongoing efforts to refine its platform. Last month, the company announced plans to include clips of any offending content or chat interactions when penalizing users.
