Rumble’s CEO, Chris Pavlovski, has made a bold assertion that Twitch may either be “shut down” or sold by Amazon in the next two years.
Throughout the years, several platforms have attempted to dethrone Twitch from its position as the leading livestream service. While platforms like Facebook Gaming and Mixer struggled significantly, new competitors such as KICK, YouTube, and Rumble continue to vie for a share of the market.
Even though Twitch maintains a stronghold in the livestreaming sector, some Amazon insiders have referred to it as a “zombie brand.” Despite generating a staggering $2 billion in revenue, the platform is reportedly operating at a loss, leading to concerns about potential widespread job cuts in the near future.
This backdrop has led Pavlovski to predict the imminent future of Twitch, as he speculates that Amazon will either sell or close the platform in the upcoming years.
“My prediction… Amazon will either shut down Twitch in the next 2 years or sell it off. Likely even sooner,” Pavlovski posted on Twitter on October 22. However, he did not elaborate on the reasoning behind his prediction.

One of his supporters was quick to note that given Pavlovski’s track record of forecasting closures, Twitch could face an even earlier demise than he suggested.
“That’s true; I did predict that. I like to allow a bit of a cushion,” Pavlovski acknowledged, reminiscing about his previous claim that GARM – the Global Alliance for Responsible Media – would cease operations within a month before it actually did.
In spite of Twitch’s shortcomings, its competitors are actively implementing features that Twitch has offered for an extended period, such as highlight clips, creator dashboards, and in-chat wagering. KICK, in particular, aims to introduce a monetization feature that allows viewers to earn by watching streams, which could provide them with a significant edge.
