Twitch Streamer Shares How to Avoid 33% Sub Price Increase on Mobile App

Twitch recently revealed plans to raise subscription prices on their mobile app. However, a streamer has found a workaround to assist viewers in bypassing this increase.

The increase to Tier 1 subscription rates, announced by the Amazon-owned streaming platform on August 21, will take effect on October 1 with a $2 raise.

This policy solely impacts subscriptions purchased via the mobile app, since Apple and Google impose a 30% tax on all app-based transactions in their respective iOS and Android marketplaces.

Despite the price increase, numerous individuals have turned to social media to express their opinions on the matter and inform other users that subscribing through a web browser will still be the more affordable choice.

To simplify the process, a streamer has disclosed how to include a second subscribe button on your channel that completely avoids the raised cost on the mobile app.

“According to Twitch streamer FlashForce, streamers can include a subscription link in their panels or social links. This will direct viewers to their mobile web browser, where they can pay the same prices as on desktop.”

Numerous individuals expressed their gratitude in the comments section, thanking the streamer for sharing the trick and also inquiring about how to replicate it. This function utilizes Twitch’s social links feature, which can be found in your channel bio.

How to Avoid Twitch Mobile Sub Price Increase

Twitch’s Social Links feature allows streamers to include up to five links to external websites or social media platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, and others.

To add a new subscribe button that opens in the browser, follow these steps:

  • Open your Creator Dashboard in a web browser
  • In the sidebar, open Channel and click on Settings
  • Put Subscribe Here in the Link Title box and add the following: twitch.tv/subs/username
  • Replace “username” in the above link with your personal account name

To ensure that the link appears on the mobile version, it must be dragged to the top of the list after adding it. The Twitch app has a character limit for displaying links, so the bottom two or three links may not be visible.

In addition to the sub price increase, Twitch made another noteworthy announcement in August with the introduction of its ‘Bleed Purple Statue’ as part of the Streamer Achievement Program, which aims to compete with YouTube’s Creator Awards program.
