Rising K-pop Group LNGSHOT Faces Backlash Over Controversial Remarks

Woojin’s Role Model Controversy

In a recent conversation with Harper’s Bazaar, LNGSHOT member Woojin referred to Tory Lanez as his “role model.” This statement ignited a wave of backlash on social media, primarily due to Lanez’s history of criminal offenses.

Tory Lanez, legally known as Daystar Peterson, is currently serving a ten-year prison sentence in California after being convicted for the 2020 shooting of rapper Megan Thee Stallion. His conviction in December 2022 included several charges, notably assault with a semi-automatic firearm. After his sentencing in August 2023, Lanez’s appeal was rejected in November 2025, reaffirming his incarceration.

Public Outcry and Response

Fans, particularly those from international communities, have strongly condemned Woojin’s remarks. The outrage spread quickly to Korean online forums, where users expressed their discontent candidly. Some notable reactions include:

  • “Is a man who went to prison for shooting a woman truly your role model? How can you still be considered an idol?”
  • “Does he admire such misogynistic violence?”
  • “If he were affiliated with HYBE, there would have been massive public outrage already.”
  • “It is completely unacceptable to idolize a person imprisoned for such heinous actions.”

As this situation evolves, fans and critics are anticipating whether Woojin or his management team will provide an apology or further clarification. Until then, this incident has created a tarnished image for both Woojin and LNGSHOT, increasing scrutiny towards them as they navigate their rising fame.
