Tyson Fury: Best Press Conference Moments from Batman Stunt to American Pie Singalong

Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk are scheduled to meet today for their final press conference before their highly anticipated undisputed world heavyweight title fight on Saturday, May 18.

Fury will defend his WBC belt against Usyk, who is also defending his WBA, IBF, and WBO world titles in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This historic event will see boxing crown its first ever undisputed heavyweight champion, holding all four belts.

During an eventful fight week, which has been filled with tension, there have been clashes between Fury’s father, John Fury, and a member of Usyk’s team. As the pair engage in verbal mind games, it is anticipated that there will be even more sparks flying as they both aim to gain the upper hand.

At 35 years old, Fury’s notoriety extends beyond his victories in the ring, as he is known for his antics outside of it. However, despite his reputation, no opponent has successfully provoked Usyk into engaging in any pre-fight psychological warfare.

With both of their undefeated records at stake, fans anticipate whether Fury will be able to provoke Usyk and create yet another memorable press conference moment to add to his already impressive repertoire.

How to Trash Talk David Haye

Haye is widely recognized not only for his achievements as a former two-weight world champion, but also for his exceptional self-promotional skills in the boxing world.

However, he was faced with a formidable opponent in Fury during their anticipated 2013 heavyweight fight, which revealed the “Gypsy King’s”exceptional skills as a trash-talker.

Haye, a former world champion, was the clear favorite against the undefeated Fury. While Fury had made a name for himself in domestic competitions, he had yet to face anyone of the same caliber as the renowned “Hayemaker.”

Despite the fact that the fight did not take place due to Haye’s injury, the pre-fight press conferences left a lasting impression.

Upon being introduced by Sky Sports presenter Adam Smith, Fury requested that he add ‘and sexy’ to his description of his accomplishments in the sport, before launching into a tirade mocking Haye for the caliber of opponents he had faced in the heavyweight division.

Fury expressed his satisfaction with the fact that this individual has finally signed the contract, as there was a lot of delay and unnecessary complications. He also referred to David Haye as a disrespectful and arrogant person. Despite this, Fury is determined to give Haye everything he desires and hopes he will emerge as the champion in their upcoming fight.

“This is his final opportunity to achieve fame, glory, and make a mark as a champion in history.”

“He has enjoyed some entertaining bouts, including a match against (Nikolai) Valuev who struggled with his own weight, a fight against the older John Ruiz, and it took him nine rounds to defeat him – clearly past his prime.”

“So, who is his opponent? Audley Harrison – let’s be real. He steps into the ring and is dominated and toyed with by Wlad (Wladimir Klitschko), the robotic Wlad, like a child.”

Haye possesses incredible explosive power, movement, and head speed, but unfortunately, he lacks the ability to strike a robot. Nevertheless, excellent job David. Well done, sir.

The once vocal Haye appeared at a loss for words and although the match did not take place in the ring, Fury undoubtedly emerged as the victor in the altercation outside the ring.

Batman and the Joker

In 2015, Fury’s long-awaited opportunity for the world heavyweight title came when he faced off against WBA, IBF, and WBO champion Wladimir Klitschko in Dusseldorf, Germany.

Klitschko’s undefeated streak of 11 years solidified his reputation as one of the greatest heavyweight champions in boxing history.

Despite the fact that many of his opponents had given up before even entering the ring, Fury’s confidence in his ability to defeat the Ukrainian never wavered.

Despite Klitschko’s attempts to win the pre-fight mind games, Fury took a different approach and tried to provoke his opponent. At the pre-fight press conference, Fury pulled off a stunt inspired by Batman and the Joker, leaving Klitschko speechless.

Fury arrived in a yellow Lamborghini and emerged from the car dressed as Batman. At the press conference, he leaped over the table and engaged in a physical altercation with a person dressed as the Joker.

After Fury triumphed in the exchange, he directed his attention to Klitschko and exclaimed, “You’re next, just like this fool here!”

“Observe him closely, for this is the exact stance you will have when you confront me on October 24. You will be lying on your back just like that, you old imbecile, you old fool.”

“You must have sustained quite a few blows. I couldn’t comprehend your previous words, so please deliver your speech once more as it went unnoticed.”

Klitschko watched in astonishment as Fury ultimately claimed victory through a unanimous decision, altering the landscape of heavyweight boxing.

Topless vs Klitschko

Despite Fury’s victory in the initial match, the two were scheduled to have a rematch the following year. However, Fury’s well-known personal challenges outside of boxing prevented this from happening. Nevertheless, there were still some antics in the press conference leading up to the anticipated fight.

Despite his usual calm pre-fight demeanor, Klitschko was visibly riled up and went on a rant about the controversial comments Fury had made in the past.

Fury mercilessly criticized his rival for his bitter attitude and mocked him for losing to an overweight opponent. He then proceeded to pull his shirt over his head and slap his exposed belly in a display of dominance.

“Fury stated, ‘He was fairly and squarely beaten the first time. He was defeated on his own territory, completely outmatched. If he wants to win this time, he’ll have to come back a thousand times stronger, as he only managed to land four punches in 12 rounds against a larger, heavier opponent like myself, who is known as a gypsy.”

“You are a terrible fighter in my opinion. I will prove it by knocking you out in one round, and no 40-year-old can defeat me, a 27-year-old.”

Deontay Wilder: Mind Games

Despite battling depression and struggling with cocaine and alcohol abuse, Fury made a triumphant comeback to boxing.

After getting back into shape, he successfully shed 10 stone and made his comeback to the ring in 2018, where he easily defeated Sefer Seferi and Francesco Pianeta.

Afterwards, an opportunity to reclaim the world heavyweight title arose when WBC champion Deontay Wilder issued a challenge to Fury for a voluntary defense.

The lead-up to the fight set the stage for an epic trilogy between the two, and if Wilder expected Fury to be an easy opponent upon his comeback, he was gravely mistaken.

Fury’s tendency to dominate the pre-fight trash-talking proved to be too much for Wilder, as he consistently struggled to keep his composure leading up to their initial two bouts.

During a particular instance, the American pushed Fury resulting in a scuffle that led to the separation of the two and caused two security guards to fall to the ground.

After the altercation, Fury declared, “That round was a 10-8.”He also noted that he could see fear in his opponent’s eyes and noticed his backside flapping.

“He arrived today with the intention of being calm, collected, and lighthearted, but I did not come here to joke around. My goal is to get inside his mind and make him face the truth, and I have successfully achieved this over the course of three meetings.”

“I have emerged victorious in every single competition, proving my prowess in mind games. I am the ultimate master of the mind.”

Despite the first fight resulting in a controversial tie, Fury ensured that the judges would not be a factor in their second bout as he defeated Wilder in the seventh round.

Despite never having been defeated before, Wilder made the decision to fire a member of his backroom staff for throwing in the towel during the fight. He attributed his lack of energy in the ring to his elaborate pre-fight costume.

Instead of participating in the customary pre-fight trash talk, Wilder chose to remain completely silent during a peculiar press conference preceding their third fight.

Despite knocking Fury down twice in the fourth round, Wilder was unable to secure a victory as the Gypsy King ultimately knocked him out in the 11th round, solidifying their rivalry.

Singalong with Bob Arum

Despite being in his nineties, Top Rank CEO Bob Arum was still able to join in on a singalong with Fury after the boxer’s victory over Tom Schwarz in Las Vegas.

Fury and Arum, along with British promoter Frank Warren, provided a memorable moment for boxing fans as they serenaded the world’s media with a rendition of “American Pie,”a clip that is sure to be remembered for a long time.
