The U.S. Army may be making a strategic decision or showing signs of desperation, as they set up a recruitment booth for potential recruits to play Helldivers 2 at a convention.
Despite the intense battles against colossal robots and lethal bugs in Helldivers 2, it is important to remember that the game is purely fictional and therefore significantly less dangerous than real warfare.
Despite our love for the virtual gunfights in Helldivers 2, the U.S. Army may have a different idea for the devoted Helldivers who crave action. At a convention featuring Helldivers 2, they surprised fans by setting up a booth to promote an official Esports team, causing confusion among attendees.

The booth’s main purpose was to promote the U.S. Army Esports team, and it did not have any direct recruitment plans on display. However, fans of Helldivers 2 quickly seized the opportunity to make jokes about the situation as it gained traction on social media.
Despite the booth making its way to the Helldivers subreddit, players were not falling for the ploy and were not interested in joining. In their own Helldivers 2 way, they made light of the situation by stating, “Imma keep it real U.S Army. I’m not dying for element 710.”This was a reference to the in-universe play on words where 710 spelled backwards is ‘oil’.
Some individuals also brought attention to the increasingly desperate measures used for military recruitment, with many targeting the video game community. “Those pathetic losers. It just shows how out of touch they are. Remember when they started mimicking Call of Duty in their commercials? It’s just like the video game.”While not directly connected to the Esports booth, this has sparked some contentious views on the use of “propaganda”in video games.
The intensity of engaging in a real gunfight is nerve-wracking, therefore it can be assumed that Helldivers 2 players will remain safely behind their screens, evading virtual orbital strikes while promoting democracy, one Burn Pit at a time.
