After the controversial death of its predecessor, Ubisoft has decided to slash the price of The Crew Motorsports by half and disable recent reviews, just three days after its launch on Steam.
As the release of The Crew Motorfest on Steam approached on April 19, Ubisoft faced controversy as players discovered that their copies of The Crew, the previous installment, were being revoked.
The servers for the 2014 racing game were shut down on March 31, but players discovered that they were unable to access their purchased copies of the original The Crew. As the game was an MMO, the server closure rendered it unplayable.
The Crew Motorsport is hoping to fill the shoes of its predecessors as it makes its debut on the Steam store. However, its first week of launch has gotten off to a rough start.
The price of The Crew Motorsport on its Steam store page has been reduced by 50%, and the game currently has a Mixed review rating.
Typically on a Steam store page, the review section displays the most recent ratings of the game. However, as of now, it appears that the section has been removed, possibly by Steam.
Despite the negative reviews and criticism, the majority of player reviews for the game are focused on Ubisoft’s decision to shutdown the original The Crew. One review even links to Forza Horizon 5 as a possible alternative.
A commenter accurately summarized the sentiment of numerous players towards Ubisoft’s handling of the situation by referencing Philippe Tremblay’s controversial statement from earlier this year, in which he advised gamers to become “comfortable”with not owning their games.
Despite The Crew Motorfest already facing numerous challenges, the game’s launch on Steam has brought about another issue. With the platform currently offering a 50% discount on Forza Horizon 5, players have the opportunity to explore their top competitor at a lower cost.
