Jujutsu Kaisen’s reputation is associated with many aspects, with its intricate and elaborate battle system being a noteworthy one. This is accentuated by the abilities of certain characters, including Ui Ui. Initially portrayed as a minor character, the younger brother of Mei Mei has now gained significant attention in the ongoing Shinjuku arc of the manga.
Despite the presence of naturally gifted sorcerers like Satoru Gojo, Yuta Okkotsu, Kinji Hakari, and Megumi Fushiguro in Jujutsu Kaisen, the use of his Cursed Technique, Spatial Transference, makes him one of the most promising individuals in the story (at least on paper). This may seem like an exaggeration, but the potential of his ability is undeniable.
However, Ui Ui’s character is unique due to the vast extent of his ability. This was demonstrated in the flashbacks of the Shinjuku arc, where he successfully swapped souls with other bodies, accelerating their training sessions in the meantime. This alone provided a significant advantage, although there were also other factors at play.
This article includes spoilers for the series.
Exploring Ui Ui’s Potential in Jujutsu Kaisen
Ui Ui’s ability to teleport to any desired location by covering himself and others with his blanket is a major factor in his potential. For instance, he could easily evade Domain Expansions and powerful attacks such as Satoru Gojo’s Hollow Purple by teleporting himself and his sister, Mei Mei, from Japan to Mexico.
In addition, Ui Ui’s Cursed Technique enables him to switch souls with others, as demonstrated in the Shinjuku arc flashbacks in the manga. This allowed him to accelerate Yuji Itadori’s training by swapping him with Kusakabe. As a result, Ui Ui was able to quickly absorb knowledge from various individuals, providing him with ample chances for advancement.
A significant contributing factor to his growth is his ability to make a Binding Vow without relying on his blanket to activate his Cursed Technique. This allows him to easily teleport away whenever necessary. Although he is currently a proficient support, honing his combat abilities and mastering Reverse Cursed Technique could elevate him to a formidable opponent.
The trajectory of Ui Ui’s character in the series
Ui Ui and his sister Mei Mei have sparked controversy among fans of Jujutsu Kaisen due to a particular scene in the Shibuya Incident arc. In this scene, the siblings flee to a hotel, where Mei Mei is shown engaging in acts of incest and child abuse with Ui Ui.
The action was evidently a grave mistake and caused a significant uproar among the fandom. As a result, Mei Mei, who was previously a beloved character, quickly became one of the most disliked individuals in the series.
Despite receiving some criticism, Ui Ui’s fans largely acknowledged that he has been influenced by his older sister. Many netizens also recognized that he is just a young boy who may not fully grasp the concept of morality, but his recent success in the fight against Ryomen Sukuna has undoubtedly boosted his fame.
Concluding Remarks
Based on his Cursed Technique alone, Ui Ui undoubtedly possesses the greatest potential among all Jujutsu Kaisen characters. Its impressive range and capabilities could easily pave the way for him to ascend to the rank of Special Grade sorcerer.
