Shakatak has responded to the statement released by ADOR, the agency of NewJeans, denying the plagiarism allegation on July 18th. Shakatak’s side had raised the issue, and ADOR claimed that their song “Bubble Gum”did not use Shakatak’s composition without permission. ADOR further stated that they had requested a credible analysis report to support their claim. Additionally, ADOR mentioned that Shakatak must provide evidence to support their plagiarism allegations.

The UK Wise Music Group, representing Shakatak, issued a Letter of Claim stating that it must be carefully reviewed and understood, as it covers aspects such as ceasing to use, reporting of profits, transfer of rights, written assurances, and reparation for any losses.

The points listed in their Letter of Claim included similarities such as “the composition having the same rhythm and notes, and a similar melody hook”, “similar use of electric guitar and bass”, “a clear demonstration of the same rhythm progressions when comparing the two songs side by side”, “both songs having a tempo of about 104-105 BPM”, and “the use of similar harmonies as evidence of unauthorized use”.

In order to fulfill ADOR’s request for a reliable analysis report, Shakatak demonstrates their readiness to substantiate their assertion by enlisting the assistance of music professionals.

Meanwhile, there has been a strong backlash from netizens towards ADOR’s handling of the plagiarism controversy. Many have criticized CEO Min Hee-jin for making accusations against ILLIT without any evidence. On the 10th, Munhwa Ilbo reached out to ADOR to inquire about the existence of an analysis report to support their plagiarism claims against ILLIT, but did not receive a response.
