The fundamental goal of Pokémon has always been to “catch ’em all.”However, fans of Pokémon TCG Pocket have observed a significant gap in the game’s current roster: the absence of Baby Pokémon. This exclusion appears to be a deliberate choice, with no indication of imminent changes.

Currently, Pokémon TCG Pocket boasts a collection of hundreds of cards, especially following the release of the latest Space-Time Smackdown expansion, which introduced a variety of new creatures. Renowned characters like Darkrai, Dialga, and Lucarion have made their debut in the game. Yet, one critical category remains missing: Baby Pokémon.

Known as Fresh or In-Training Pokémon, these characters represent the first stage in the evolutionary ladder and were initially introduced in Generation II. While they have long been a staple in both the classic Trading Card Game and anime series, not a single Baby Pokémon is available in TCG Pocket.

Absence of Baby Pokémon: A Notable Omission

For instance, while iconic Pokémon such as Pikachu, Roselia, and Magmar are featured in TCG Pocket, their baby forms—Pichu, Budew, and Magby—remain conspicuously absent. This ongoing omission has not gone unnoticed by the community; players discussing the topic on Reddit have expressed their thoughts, with one user remarking, “Baby cards in Pocket would be fun, ”while another humorously suggested, “They are holding on to the baby mechanic for the day they need to buff Pikachu.”

While there is a possibility that developers might include Baby Pokémon in future updates—since many remain unaccounted for in the game—the existing mechanics could pose a challenge. Players can already evolve Pokémon, and each card clearly outlines how and when transformations occur, displayed in the top-left corner of the card.

Notably, since several cards, like Pikachu, are categorized as “basic, ”the introduction of Baby Pokémon could disrupt the established evolution classification system. Therefore, while the addition of these characters may be desirable, it seems unlikely to happen in the near future without significantly altering the gameplay experience.
