Filming for Resident Evil Requiem took place in an environment of near-total darkness, where stunt performers actively contributed to the game’s immersive realism. While you’ve likely come across amusing mods that transform the game into something more comical, it’s crucial to remember that at its heart, this is an intense horror experience. Capcom ensured that the atmosphere of suspense was palpable not only in-game but also during the recording process.
In a recent interview with PCGamesN, Angela Sant’Albano, the actress portraying the new character Grace Ashcroft, detailed the extreme measures taken by the studio to accurately evoke fear in the actors.
Recording in Darkness: A Unique Approach
Sant’Albano hailed Capcom’s innovative approach, referring to their commitment as “amazing.” The immersion was far from mere acting; it involved meticulously crafted environments within the recording studio designed to reflect the game’s chilling atmosphere.

Grace Ashcroft’s character might not initially exude the classic action-hero vibes like Leon, but that only adds to her unique narrative. To amplify the authenticity of the experience, Capcom incorporated furniture and props that closely mirrored the in-game settings. Stunt performers engaged with the cast directly, creating chaotic scenarios where they would rush toward or physically interact with the actors mid-scene.
Interestingly, mirroring Grace’s frequent ventures into the pitch-black environment of the game, Sant’Albano shared that the recording sessions were conducted under similar conditions.“We would turn off all the lights in the studio, and we would only operate by flashlight or camera light on our head. I believe [Capcom] excelled at making the scenario feel as genuine as possible, ” she remarked, alluding to the absence of actual zombies on set.
To enhance the portrayal of disturbing scenes, the production team provided the cast with early CGI renderings of menacing creatures and detailed descriptions of gory elements. For instance, they might illustrate a character with a grotesque sore prominently featured on their left hand, allowing actors to visualize their reactions more vividly.
While some players have opted to alleviate the horror experience by integrating characters from Umamusume, the dedication of the cast and crew of Resident Evil Requiem is unmistakable. They embraced an innovative filming technique that truly blends the lines between game and reality, ensuring that the horror is felt both in gameplay and behind the scenes.
