Understanding Multiplayer Mechanics in Monster Hunter Wilds
At the launch of Monster Hunter Wilds, players can enjoy a truly seamless crossplay experience, enabling friends from various platforms to easily join the same lobby.
Upon launching the game and loading your saved file, you will be presented with multiple options: create an online lobby, join an existing one, or start a single-player online adventure. Regardless of your initial choice, players can invite others to become friends through the Lobby Member feature or by using the Hunter ID search functionality available in the Member List within the start menu.
Navigating Lobbies
Once you’re in a lobby or have welcomed other hunters into yours, you can freely explore the extensive open world until you initiate a quest. Upon quest commencement, all players will embark together. There are two lobby types to choose from: public and private. Private lobbies require an ID and password for entry, while public lobbies will match you with groups that align with your preferences. Need to switch things up? Conversations with Alma at the Quest Counter allow you to change your lobby settings anytime.

Exploring Link Parties
In contrast to lobbies, Link Parties are designed for established groups of hunters. When you join a Link Party, any quest started by a member automatically notifies all participants by sending out invitations. Each Link Party accommodates up to four players and includes an exclusive chat option, remaining active even post-quest so you can continue strategizing and sharing insights.

There’s also an array of communication features available, including in-game messages, emotes, and interactive stickers to engage with fellow hunters. Moreover, players can utilize Environment Links to invite Link Party members to explore the same biomes together.
Creating Squads for Community Engagement
Squads serve as large networks of hunters, akin to expansive guilds where players can connect with numerous others. By establishing squad lobbies, members can engage in discussions and strategize collectively. Players can search and request to join squads at the Base Camp’s Squad Formation Center and can belong to a maximum of eight squads, each capped at eight members. Whether you’re drawn to highly competitive environments or a more casual approach, squad selection is diverse.
As an added advantage, squad members gain access to unique lobby features, with the maximum capacity expanding as squad size does. However, it’s essential to remember that exceeding your squad’s maximum capacity will result in your lobby disbanding, requiring careful management of member numbers.
Co-op Play in Story Mode
Monster Hunter Wilds offers a co-op experience in story mode, allowing friends to join forces. Both players will progress in the story, enjoying their own cutscenes and the option to skip or view them. A quest only begins when one party member initiates it from the Quest Counter, ensuring a coordinated entry into each mission.

SOS Flares: A Game-Changer
SOS Flares empower hunters by allowing others to join their quests without needing to be on their friend list or part of a Link Party. Players can browse available SOS Flares through the options menu and join quests whenever they see fit. This feature lets players enjoy collaborative gameplay while maintaining a mostly single-player experience, catering to varied preferences.
Even during solo play, hunters are not entirely alone. By activating an SOS Flare, non-player character (NPC) allies can join your hunt, providing additional support without affecting your reward outcomes. Therefore, there’s little reason to shy away from using it unless you’re seeking the solitary thrill of playing alone.
Joining any of these multiplayer modes won’t diminish your game rewards; they remain consistent irrespective of your mode of play. For those who favor a solo experience, rest assured that Monster Hunter Wilds offers a satisfying offline gaming option.
