Modders have successfully eliminated the most controversial aspect of the God of War Ragnarok PC port—the mandatory PSN login requirement.
Although God of War Ragnarok enjoyed a stellar debut on PlayStation consoles in 2022, its transition to PC has faced significant backlash. This isn’t due to serious performance issues like those reported with The Last of Us Part 1’s PC release.
The PC version of Sony Santa Monica’s narrative-driven action RPG has been subject to review-bombing by players frustrated by the PSN account requirement, a consistent issue across several of PlayStation’s PC adaptations. The need to create and sign into a PSN account has incited considerable annoyance among users.
Fortunately, for those resistant to Sony’s approach, modders have devised a workaround that effectively circumvents this requirement. The best part is that the solution has been successful most of the time.
The brand in blue has a history of imposing PSN requirements for its PC launches.
The single-player nature of God of War Ragnarok, which does not necessitate any player interaction, makes the decision to enforce a PSN account even more perplexing. While this condition has previously been applied to multiplayer games like Helldivers 2, the response to that implementation was also negative.
“This provides no benefit to the customer and only worsens the overall experience, adding unnecessary security risks on top of being an inconvenience to the user and not even allowing people in certain countries to have access to it,” reads one Steam review of the game. Many players have echoed this sentiment, recognizing the validity of the complaint.
For players who are hesitant to create a PSN account but still wish to enjoy God of War Ragnarok on PC, Nexus Mods user iArtoriasUA has proposed an effective solution. The NoPSSDK mod essentially enables an offline mode by disabling the PSN overlay and allowing players to decline when prompted to sign in.
iArtoriasUA has committed to “maintain the tool”in order to address potential updates that might render it ineffective. They are also providing guidance for players who may encounter challenges while using the mod. For most users, it appears to work seamlessly with little additional effort required.
