The Illuminate have made a formidable return in Helldivers 2, and they are more powerful than ever. This resurgence is part of the recent Omens of Tyranny update, during which the Federation of Super Earth had previously eliminated them completely. With their return, players can expect swarms of these aggressors along with imposing tripod machines known as Harvesters. While they may seem daunting, effective strategies exist for dismantling these menacing foes in Helldivers 2.
Understanding Harvesters in Helldivers 2
At first glance, Harvesters can be incredibly intimidating due to their fortified armor and protective shields, which render standard weaponry largely ineffective.
However, vanquishing these titans is manageable when armed with the right weaponry and precise targeting against their vulnerable areas. Below, we delve into our recommended tactics for defeating Harvesters successfully.
Identifying Weak Spots on Harvesters
The primary weak points of the Harvester are its hip joints, which are crucial targets for immobilizing the machine. Focusing your fire on these areas increases your chances of success significantly.
Another critical weak spot is the crest above its eye, housing the shield generator. Taking this element out with a precise shot from an Anti-Materiel Rifle (AMR) can ensure the Harvester’s defenses remain disabled.
It’s worth noting that aerial strikes from the Eagle and even the heavy Eagle 500kg Bomb show inconsistent results against Harvesters. Instead, utilizing stratagem weapons has proven to be a more effective approach.
Strategies for Destroying Harvesters in Helldivers 2
While any weapon can temporarily disable the Harvesters’ shields, the shields regenerate after a short while. Once you’ve managed to bring a shield down, it is imperative to direct your fire at the Harvester’s hip joints using the following weapons for optimal efficiency.
1. LAS-99 Quasar Cannon
This powerful laser weapon has the potential to eliminate a Harvester with a single well-placed shot. However, it requires a brief charging time, making it most effective when used from a distance. For optimal precision, switching to first-person view is advisable.
2. MG-206 Heavy Machine Gun
Among the various weapons, I find the heavy machine gun to be the most effective means of taking down Harvesters, thanks to its versatility across different ranges. Adjusting to the recoil may take some time, but targeting the joints will bring them crashing down swiftly.
3. MLS-4X Commando
The Commando is also capable of delivering a single shot kill to Harvesters if aimed accurately at a weak point. While highly effective, precision is key to fully maximize its potential.
In addition to the previously mentioned weapons, consider the following for your attack strategy:
- APW-1 Anti-Materiel Rifle (AMR)
- GR-8 Recoilless Rifle
- LAS-16 Sickle
Engaging with Harvesters can be an exhilarating experience as players embrace the thrill of combat. Personally, I gravitate towards the Heavy Machine Gun for this task; there’s a unique excitement in facing off against these giants and systematically dismantling them.
In addition to Harvesters, players should be prepared to confront other new technologies introduced by the Illuminate, including warships. The latest update also brings a fresh selection of melee weapons, such as the Stun Baton and Stun Lance, which are particularly effective against the Illuminate forces.
