Despite being a well-known name in Korea, actor Kang has recently gained even more attention from fans with his leading role in the star-studded K-drama, Uncle Samsik. This marks his first appearance in a K-drama, after making his Hollywood debut with a role in the critically-acclaimed film Parasite.

What is Uncle Samsik about?

In the 1960s, Pak Doo-chill shows up before Kim San to offer his support towards achieving his goal of an industrialized Korea.

Kim San is a driven idealist who completed his studies at a Korean military academy and pursued economics in the United States. With the honor of being awarded an Albright Scholarship, his ultimate goal is to elevate Korea to become an industrialized nation, reaching the same level of prosperity as America.

Pak Doo-chill, also known as Uncle Samsik, is intrigued by Kim San’s ambitions. As he is determined to take care of his team and pursue his own aspirations, he offers his support to Kim San. Despite the challenges of a well-established system, the two men form an uneasy alliance and navigate through its complexities together.

Song’s first K-drama role in his career will be Uncle Samsik. Throughout his career, the actor has achieved numerous successes with films such as Parasite, Memoirs of Murder, The Host, Thirst, and Chris Evan’s Snow Piercer. He first appeared on the big screen in 1996 with The Day a Pig Fell into the Well.

Singer-songwriter Tiffany Young, who is set to play Rachal in Uncle Samsik, has also been in the spotlight. She rose to fame as a member of Girls’ Generation, one of Korea’s most well-known K-Pop girl groups. In 2016, she ventured into a solo career, and has since been making waves in the industry.

This will not be Uncle Samsik’s first appearance in a K-drama, as she previously portrayed the character of Rachel in Disney+’s Reborn Rich alongside Song Joong-ki, Lee Sung-min, and Shin Hyun-been. In her latest K-drama, Rachel takes on the role of the director of the Albright Foundation and oversees the organization’s initiatives.

The character becomes intrigued by Kim San’s aspirations to reform Korea, and is known for her gentle and welcoming nature. In an interview with Herald Pop, she clarified that she focused on analyzing and interpreting the character’s psychological aspects rather than her relationships with other characters.

The director of the K-drama described Young as an actor with a strong ability to captivate audiences.

When is it out?

Uncle Sam’s new movie, “Unclea Samsik,”will be available for streaming on Disney+ starting May 15, 2024.

The K-drama, titled Uncle Samsik, will be available to international fans as a Disney+ original through the streaming platform. American fans can also stream it on Hulu.

Number of Episodes of Uncle Samsik

The premiere date of the K-drama will be in May and it will consist of 16 episodes in total.

The streaming platform has announced that Uncle Samsik will be released in three episodes on May 15. Following this, two new episodes will be released every Wednesday until the three-part finale on June 19. There have been no updates or hints about the possibility of a second season for the K-drama.

With Uncle Samsik now available on Disney+ this month, there are also numerous other exciting K-dramas to anticipate in May. Additionally, Netflix has announced plans to release several new K-dramas in the upcoming year of 2024.
