Despite receiving one of his lowest Rotten Tomatoes scores, an undervalued Tom Cruise sequel has risen to the top of Netflix’s rankings eight years later.
Despite his numerous critical flops, Tom Cruise’s filmography is lacking in turkeys. One such example is Cocktail, which has a 9% score on Rotten Tomatoes, but has still been a hit with audiences and is considered one of the greatest ‘bad’ movies ever made.
Despite being a post-Top Gun film by Tony Scott, Days of Thunder also has a 38% score. While not all of his films deserve this defense (such as Lions for Lambs and The Mummy which are considered to be stinkers), the point remains the same: even in defeat, he manages to come out on top.
Despite critics’ lack of enthusiasm, viewers have been eagerly watching Cruise in two films where he portrays an iconic literary action hero, in between his appearances in the later Mission: Impossible movies and Top Gun: Maverick.
Jack Reacher: Never Go Back is currently ranked first on Netflix’s top 10 movies chart in the US, with 2012’s Jack Reacher also holding the fifth spot on the list.
Despite the initial film receiving a decent 64% score on Rotten Tomatoes and performing reasonably well at the box office, the sequel did not have the same success. With a score of 38% and a budget of $62 million, it only made $162 million, which, while profitable, was not on par with Cruise’s other blockbuster hits.
Despite this, it has unexpectedly gained popularity on Netflix, serving as a temporary replacement until Alan Ritchson’s return in Reacher Season 3 on Prime Video.
After just finishing my first viewing of Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, I couldn’t help but be impressed by this awesome and bad-ass movie,”one user wrote. “In my opinion, Tom Cruise’s portrayal of Jack Reacher in these films truly captures the essence of the character from the novels,”another posted.
“According to a third comment, Tom Cruise is known for his exceptional acting in the role of Jack Reacher. Another opinion expressed a preference for Tom Cruise portraying Jack Reacher, an unpopular opinion.”
