Despite underperforming at the box office, the film “Bikeriders”led by Tom Hardy is finding success through streaming.
Directed and written by Jeff Nichols, known for his work on 2012’s Mud, The Bikeriders depicts a Midwestern motorcycle gang in a 1960s Chicago crime drama. The film also features the acting talents of Tom Hardy, Austin Butler, Jodie Comer, and Michael Shannon.
Despite receiving a favorable 80% Rotten Tomatoes score from critics upon its release in June 2024, the film did not achieve box office success in any measure.
Despite Deadline reporting that The Bikeriders had a production cost between $30 million and $40 million, it only managed to earn a meager $35 million at the international box office by the end of its theatrical run. This was a disappointing figure.
Despite the Tom Hardy movie failing to attract theatergoers, The Bikeriders has experienced a resurgence with its debut on Peacock on August 9. According to Reelgood’s statistics, it ranked among the top 10 movies across all streaming platforms for the week of August 22 through August 28.

The Bikeriders holds the 10th position while Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga remains at the top spot as number 1 on the chart.
The top five includes Netflix’s The Union, A Quiet Place: Day One on Paramount Plus, Prime Video’s Jackpot!, and MAX’s release of Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1.
Despite the Bikeriders’ shortcomings at the box office, it is important to note that most films typically need to earn double their budget in order to break even, taking into account additional expenses such as marketing.
Despite this, the movie’s initial success on streaming platforms indicates that the film, which has been received positively by audiences, has the potential for a second wave of popularity. However, it remains to be seen if the film will be able to recuperate its production expenses.
