Understanding Crossplay in Black Ops 6: A Guide to Cross-Platform Gameplay in Call of Duty

Cross-platform gaming has been a feature in numerous popular multiplayer titles for several years, but how is it implemented in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6?

This trend gained significant traction with the rise of Fortnite in 2018, allowing players from PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and more to compete against one another in the same lobbies.

Since then, crossplay has become increasingly prevalent in various games, including the Call of Duty series, which has supported cross-platform functionality since Modern Warfare in 2019.

However, some gamers are uncertain about any potential changes to crossplay in Black Ops 6. Here’s the latest information we have.

Will Black Ops 6 Support Crossplay?

Absolutely, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will feature cross-platform play. As is standard in contemporary gaming, players will be able to join forces with friends across all platforms.

To streamline the process, you can add friends from different platforms by using their Activision ID.

Just go to the Social tab, click on ‘Add Friends’, and enter their Activision ID. Once they accept your request, you’ll see them in your Friends List, although interaction through platform-specific voice chats (like Xbox or PlayStation Party Chat) won’t be possible.

Disabling crossplay is a straightforward process.

Many players may wish to turn off crossplay upon entering Black Ops 6 multiplayer for various reasons. A common motivation, particularly among console users, is to minimize the chance of encountering cheaters on PC.

Fortunately, switching off crossplay is quite simple. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Launch Black Ops 6 multiplayer.
  2. Navigate to ‘Settings’.
  3. Choose ‘Account & Network’.
  4. Locate the Crossplay option and set it to ‘Off’.

Keep in mind that disabling crossplay means not only avoiding PC players but also removing access to anyone on different platforms. Therefore, if you’re on Xbox and your friend plays on PlayStation, you’ll be unable to connect with them in-game.

While Black Ops 6 is not yet released as of this writing, you can start preloading the game now on any platform of your choice.
