Unsecured Souls play a crucial role in Deadlock; this article delves into what Souls are and the best times to secure them.
Valve’s highly-anticipated game, Deadlock, is currently in early access. This 6v6 hero shooter incorporates MOBA elements, allowing players to engage with a large roster of characters (check out our tier list for rankings).
The primary objective is to destroy the enemy team’s Patron, requiring players to collect Souls and specifically Unsecured Souls to enhance their capabilities. Unsecured Souls can be more challenging to obtain, so here’s everything you need to know.
Defeating Jungle Creepers in Deadlock allows you to collect Unsecured Souls.
What are Unsecured Souls?
Unsecured Souls act as an in-match currency within Deadlock, utilized to purchase new abilities and upgrades. They are essential for leveling up your character.
Similar to other Souls in this hero shooter, Unsecured Souls are lost upon your death, allowing either your allies or enemies to collect them.
How to Secure Unsecured Souls in Deadlock
You can acquire Unsecured Souls from Neutral Creeper Camps and crates.
The simplest method to gather them is by defeating Creepers scattered throughout the map. These minions can be found in various Creeper Camps, categorized into three tiers:
- Tier 1 Creepers are the easiest to defeat and become available two minutes into a match.
- Tier 2 Creepers pose a slightly greater challenge but are worth the effort, spawning seven minutes into the game.
- Tier 3 Creepers are the most formidable and also spawn after seven minutes.
Below, you’ll find a complete diagram of all Creeper camps and their respective tiers:
Numerous Creeper Camps are available across the Deadlock map.
There are six Tier 1 Creeper Camps located around the map, identifiable by a single triangle. Tier 2 camps, which are the most numerous, consist of 25 camps marked by a triangle and a line beneath it.
Finally, there are eight Tier 3 Creeper Camps, which are considerably challenging to defeat in the early game, recognizable by a triangle icon with two lines underneath.
The Unsecured Souls gradually decrease and are added to your overall Souls balance over time.
Upon defeating Creepers and claiming Unsecured Souls, you’ll notice numbers decreasing next to your Souls total. Eventually, these unsecured Souls will transition into a secured state.
Unsecured Souls will be added to your total Souls count once the timer expires, so there’s no need for further action to secure them—just wait and avoid dying in the meantime. However, if you’re close to elimination, it’s advisable to spend them immediately, as any unsecured Souls will be lost upon your death.
When to Farm Unsecured Souls
Think of Unsecured Souls as an optional, additional objective to prioritize whenever you find downtime in a lane.
A great example is post-successful lane push. If you’ve just eliminated an enemy wave of Troopers and your lane opponent is busy defending, a brief detour to your nearest jungle camp can be a productive use of time.
Farm Unsecured Souls effectively when your opponent is pushed back in their lane.
Successfully clearing a camp not only denies the opposing team the opportunity to collect those Unsecured Souls but also increases your Souls count for spending. Gaining an early advantage in farm against your lane opponent is vital.
Conversely, if you’re frequently caught in ganks without guaranteed safety outside your lane, an alternative strategy is to let the enemy farm Unsecured Souls, then strategize an ambush to steal their rewards afterward.
Both approaches come with their risks, making map awareness essential for informed decisions.
