Understanding Pokemon Go Dynamax & Max Battles

The latest season of Pokemon Go, Max Out, offers an abundance of content and exciting features such as Dynamax and Max Battles. For those interested in battling massive Pokemon in Niantic’s game, here is everything you need to know.

September 3 marked the start of Max Out, the latest season of Pokemon Go. This highly anticipated update will introduce exciting new features to the mobile game, including the highly anticipated Go Big.

The upcoming Go Big event for Pokemon Go will finally unveil the long-awaited Dynamax and Max Battles, which were first introduced in Gen 8’s Sword & Shield. These battles allow players to enlarge their Pokemon and engage in epic fights against each other.

On September 10, 2024, Dynamax and Max Battles will be introduced as new features that Go players may not be familiar with. To prepare for their arrival, here is all the information you need to know about them.

Dynamax Mechanic

The Dynamax mechanic in Sword & Shield allows regular Pokemon to increase in size and engage in battles with other Dynamax Pokemon at incredible proportions.

In Pokemon Go, only creatures with the ability to Dynamax are permitted to take part in Max Battles, which pit them against other Dynamax adversaries.

Upon entering the battle arena, a Max Meter will become visible. Once it reaches maximum capacity, you will have the option to Dynamax a Pokemon and select from a range of three different moves.

  • Max Guard is a defensive maneuver that can be used to decrease the amount of damage received from an opponent’s Pokemon.
  • Max Geyser is an aggressive maneuver that unleashes a potent special attack, with its strength determined by the Pokemon’s type.
  • Max Spirit is a status move that not only restores HP for the user, but also for their teammates.

The use of Max Moves is restricted, therefore it is crucial for you and your team to defeat the Dynamax enemy before you exhaust your supply. Additionally, these moves can be upgraded with additional Max Particles, Candy, and Candy XL, but this can only be done on the Pokemon’s information page before entering a Max Battle.

Max Battles explained

The Max Battles, which have recently been introduced, share many similarities with Raids. Like Raids, players join forces to battle a common foe. However, unlike Raids, there is no time limit in Max Battles and if the Dynamax Pokemon defeats your team, you will be eliminated. Additionally, the combat in Max Battles is turn-based, unlike the real-time combat in Raids.

Participating in Max Battles comes with certain restrictions and requirements that players must adhere to in order to join.

Rules and Restrictions

  • To participate in a Max Battle, you must be in the same location as the event. It is not possible to join remotely.
  • In order to participate in a Max Battle, you must pay the required Max Particle entry fee.
  • A maximum of four trainers are permitted to participate in a Max Battle.
  • Exclusively Dynamax Pokemon are eligible to join.

Joining a Max Battle: A Step-by-Step Guide

As previously mentioned, there will be various Max Battle tiers with corresponding Max Particle costs.

Simply follow a few simple steps once you have gathered the necessary amount of Max Particles:

  1. Walk to the Power Spot where the Dynamax Pokemon you want to battle is featured.
  2. Pay the Max Particle cost to enter.
  3. Choose a maximum of three Pokemon to participate in the battle, with only one being allowed to Dynamax.
  4. Wait for other players to join (or invite your friends).
  5. Engage in combat with the Dynamax Pokemon.

Maximum Battles Rewards

Once the battle concludes, you will have the opportunity to capture the Dynamax Pokemon with Premier Balls. These powerful creatures can be recognized by their radiant pink hue and their unique Max Moves.

Furthermore, you will also be given the opportunity to leave a Pokemon at the Power Spot where you engaged in battle. This Pokemon will remain there to assist fellow trainers in their fights against Dynamax Pokemon and will allow you to obtain Rare Candy, Berries, and other valuable items.

In addition, players have the option to upgrade these rewards by using PokeCoins. This will result in receiving a higher number of items and Premier Balls as a reward.

If you fail to defeat the Dynamax Pokemon, the Max Particles used to access the Power Spot battle will remain unused.
