Understanding the Corruption System in Warhammer 40K Darktide

In Warhammer 40K: Darktide, the health and armor system has evolved from the mechanics found in Vermintide 2. Players must carefully monitor their “Wounds”or health levels to avoid reaching a downed state, which can lead to adverse effects such as corruption.

Understanding the Corruption System in Warhammer 40K Darktide

Corruption negatively impacts a player’s maximum health after they are downed, suffer damage from specific foes, or when carrying Grimoires. Corruption effectively diminishes part of the health bar, preventing players from using medical crates for healing.

Here are three methods by which your health can become corrupted:

Corruption from Being Downed

Sustaining damage that depletes all three “Wounds”or segments of your health will result in going down, necessitating revival by a teammate.

Upon your revival, one of your Wounds will be entirely corrupted, shown as a purple segment in place of the usual white one.

Standard Medical Crates cannot restore this corrupted segment; you’ll need to utilize the Medicae Station instead.

Corruption from Enemies

While many adversaries in Darktide deal direct damage to your toughness and health, certain foes also inflict corruption damage that can accumulate and consume portions of your Wounds.

This form of corruption differs from losing an entire segment; the purple area indicates corruption covering only part of a Wound:

Foes that appear mutated or are affected by pox can inflict corruption damage, so be vigilant against the especially grotesque ones. Below is a list of enemies and bosses that cause corruption damage in Warhammer 40K: Darktide:

  • Poxwalker
  • Pox Hound
  • Poxbursters
  • Trappers
  • Daemonhost
  • Plague Thief
  • Beast of Nurgle
  • Chaos Spawn

As previously noted, any corrupted portion of your health cannot be restored using Medical Crates, and players must engage with the Medicae Station for healing. Additionally, it’s important to recognize that corruption damage is.

Corruption from Grimoires

Lastly, collecting a Grimoire will result in a permanent corruption effect on your health bar, reducing it by 25% for one Grimoire and by 50% for a second.

But there’s more: carrying these Grimoires will continually lower your health due to corruption by one point approximately every ten seconds. To alleviate the extra corruption beyond the initial amount inflicted by the Grimoire, players will need to visit the Medicae Station, which restores health to 75% for one Grimoire and 50% for two.

This sums up the key aspects of the corruption function in Warhammer 40K Darktide. This intriguing system introduces an added layer of tension when facing specific enemy types.

Currently, the game is in a fantastic state, particularly after the substantial Unlocked and Loaded update that introduced numerous balancing adjustments, new mechanics, and a new mini-game for the Rolling Steel mission.
