Despite the various new traits and aspirations added to The Sims 4 over the years, which have a significant impact on Sims’ interactions and overall lifestyles, the base game’s romantic options can still feel somewhat restricted at times. However, these additions do allow for more customization when it comes to Sims’ relationships.
Even with differences in personality, dating can often feel repetitive. But that’s about to change with the introduction of the new Romantic Boundaries feature in an upcoming base game update.
What exactly is it about and how does it function?
The Sims 4: Understanding Romantic Boundaries
The Romantic Boundaries system provides the option to customize how your Sims handle boundaries and jealousy in their romantic relationships.
Therefore, your Sim might be okay with their partner talking and flirting with another Sim, or even participating in other physical romantic activities, but not as much with the act of simply “WooHoo-ing”with them.
In contrast, you have the option to personalize your Sim’s romantic boundaries so that they are comfortable with having multiple romantic relationships with other Sims. However, this also means that their partners must also share the same mindset…unless you intentionally want to add some drama to the situation!
All Romantic Boundaries in The Sims 4
In the process of creating a Sim in Create-A-Sim (CAS), one can establish Romantic Boundaries. The game allows for a total of four customizable options. These are the available choices for Romantic Boundaries:
- Sims feel jealous if their partner engages in non-physical romance with other Sims
- Sims feel jealous if their partner engages in physical romance with other Sims
- Sims feel jealous if their partner engages in WooHoo with other Sims
- Sims’ jealousy triggers can change by talking about it with other Sims
Every choice available can be switched by choosing between Yes and No. Non-physical romance in this context involves behaving flirtatiously with other Sims, while physical romance entails WooHoo for adults and messing around for teens.
The final choice pertains to the ability for your Sims to alter their Romantic Boundaries. Choosing “No”means that they will not reconsider or change their stance in The Sims 4.
Changing Romantic Boundaries in The Sims 4
Your Sim’s romantic boundaries can be changed at any time in the game through CAS.
When playing as an existing Sim, all Romantic Boundaries are automatically set to Yes by default. However, if this does not meet your preferences, you can open Create-A-Sim at any time during your gameplay and manually adjust them. The steps below will guide you through the process.
- Locate the Simology icon on the bottom right corner of your screen and click on it.
- Navigate down the page until you locate the Create a Sim button and select it.
- To access the three dot icon, navigate to CAS and select it.
- Click on the left tab labeled “Romantic Boundaries.”
- Adjust your settings to your preferred configuration.
After you have made all desired changes, click on the check mark icon to go back to the game. This will ensure that your Sim’s Romantic Boundaries preferences have been successfully updated.
