Understanding Twice’s True Nature: Debunking Misperceptions Among My Hero Academia Fans

My Hero Academia enthusiasts often display a strong affection for their beloved characters, sometimes extending this support to the series’ main villains. A prime example of this phenomenon is Twice, a member of the League of Villains, who is frequently viewed as the “good guy”within the villainous group, despite a more complex reality.

It’s important to recognize that Twice has engaged in numerous criminal acts throughout the series and has gone to great lengths to assist his allies in the League of Villains. Although his character bears an undeniable tragic element, his actions align more closely with those of a villain, similar to the more merciless antagonists like Dabi and Tomura Shigaraki.

Why Twice Ultimately Fits the Villain Role in My Hero Academia

The League of Villains consists of a diverse array of antagonists, each with rich backstories that shed light on their motivations. Jin Bubaigawara, also known as Twice, is often seen as the most relatable figure among them. His backstory involves the tragic loss of his parents, dropping out of high school, and his yearning for companionship, which makes him a generally likable and humble person.

While this evokes sympathy, it does not excuse Twice from being a terrorist within the narrative. Despite his tumultuous past, he chose to align with Tomura Shigaraki and actively participated in their nefarious schemes, which many fans tend to overlook.

During the Overhaul arc, Twice and Himiko Toga even attempted to abduct Eri, a vulnerable girl with a history of severe abuse. Additionally, in his final moments, Twice would have unleashed widespread tragedy with his Sad Man’s Parade clones had Hawks not intervened, making the difficult but necessary decision to end Twice’s life.

Further Evidence That Twice Isn’t the Hero He Appears to Be

A notable comparison can be drawn between Twice and Dabi, as both share harrowing pasts in My Hero Academia yet had opportunities to forge better paths. Nevertheless, Twice embraced terrorism without much hesitation, while Dabi committed himself to annihilating Endeavor and their family, leading to devastating consequences for all involved.

One could argue that, in comparison to other villains, Twice—alongside Mr. Compress and Spinner—might seem like a lesser evil. However, this does not redeem his overall character. For instance, he once attempted to murder Deku, illustrating a stark contrast in moral values compared to Spinner, who chose to protect him.

Concluding Thoughts

It’s understandable why many fans of My Hero Academia show compassion towards villains like Twice, but this empathy does not excuse his actions. His willingness to engage in criminal activities with the League of Villains renders him equally accountable for the various tragedies that unfold throughout the storyline.
