Channing Tatum surprised 21 Jump Street fans with an update regarding the possibility of a third movie in the franchise.
Despite being well-known for his performances in Magic Mike and Step Up, many fans also associate Channing Tatum with the 21 Jump Street franchise.
The 2012 movie was a major force at the spring box office, raking in a total of $201.5 million worldwide. This triumph led to the release of a sequel, 22 Jump Street, in 2014.
Since then, the franchise has remained dominant, but the actor recently shared with ComicBook that the script for a potential third movie is still the best one he’s ever read, giving fans hope for its creation.
The movie, based on the cop procedural with the same title, features Tatum and co-star Jonah Hill as beat cops who are tasked with infiltrating a drug ring at the nearby high school.
The stakes were raised in 22 Jump Street when the pair was put into a college environment to probe the hazardous and lethal street substance known as ‘WHY-PHY’.
The sequel surpassed its predecessor by earning $331 million worldwide and receiving a plethora of positive reviews from critics.
Unexpectedly, the third movie was originally planned to be a crossover with the Men in Black series. A significant release of Sony’s emails revealed that Hill supported the concept, as he expressed to motion pictures head Amy Pascal, “the merger of Jump Street and MIB, I believe, is sleek, cool, and impactful.”
Despite the confidence of the cast in the script and crossover, Tatum disclosed that the movie was unable to move forward due to bureaucratic and other higher-level issues.
Despite facing obstacles, Tatum remains committed to completing the trilogy. In an interview with ComicBook, he expressed his desire to see a 23 Jump Street and work on it with his co-star Jonah. Both actors are eager to reprise their roles and have the opportunity to have fun together once again.
