Criticism of Jung Woo-sung’s Relationship Choices Amid Pregnancy News
Recent developments surrounding actor Jung Woo-sung have sparked overwhelming criticism regarding his decision not to marry Moon Gabi, particularly in light of her pregnancy. Legal experts, however, are weighing in, deeming such criticisms excessive and misplaced.
Legal Insights on Modern Relationships
In a YouTube interview on November 25th with Lee Jin-ho, divorce attorney Yang So-young shed light on the evolving dynamics of marriage and parenting in contemporary society. She stated, “We are in an era where marriage is not the default. In cases like this, unintended pregnancies happen, leading to complex conflicts between the desire to continue a pregnancy and the hesitation to do so.”
Yang elaborated on Moon Gabi’s situation, noting, “It has only been disclosed that Moon Gabi chose to proceed with the pregnancy after becoming aware of it. This singular choice impacts Jung Woo-sung’s legal responsibilities and relationships significantly.”
According to Yang, “While Jung Woo-sung is obligated to provide for the child’s upbringing and support, and the child rightfully possesses inheritance rights, it’s crucial to recognize that additional obligations beyond these legal requirements cannot be reasonably imposed.”
The Marriage Debate: A Child’s Right vs. Personal Freedom
Yang strongly criticized the societal expectation that a child’s birth should lead to marriage. She argued, “Forcing marriage solely due to the arrival of a child could create dissatisfaction for both parents and potentially harm the child’s wellbeing. It’s important to distinguish between marrying after a child is born and marrying merely because of the child.”
Drawing from her extensive experience, Yang noted, “I’ve witnessed many individuals regret marrying simply because of a child. It’s preferable to keep these matters separate. Not pursuing marriage does not imply irresponsibility.”
She further emphasized that the decision about the pregnancy must be agreed upon mutually, highlighting that this remains a crucial yet unresolved aspect of their relationship.
Yang projected that the potential child support might be approximately 2 to 3 million won each month, indicating the financial commitments involved in single parenthood.
Official Statement from Jung Woo-sung’s Agency
On November 24th, Jung Woo-sung’s agency, Artist Company, confirmed in a statement that the child Moon Gabi mentioned on social media is indeed Jung Woo-sung’s biological child. They acknowledged ongoing discussions aimed at determining the most suitable approach for the child’s upbringing. The agency emphasized that Jung Woo-sung would assume full responsibility for the child.
However, the agency refrained from providing comments on sensitive details such as the timing of the child’s birth, the nature of Jung Woo-sung and Moon Gabi’s relationship, or any marriage plans.
