Unlocking Goku Story & Alternate Paths in Sparking Zero (Dragon Ball Sparking Zero)

As the central character of the series, Goku features the most Sparking Episodes and alternate endings. Get ready, as you will be spending significant time playing as Goku.

Pushing the Limit

At the onset of Goku’s Episode Battle mode, you’re presented with a choice: team up with Piccolo against Raditz or go solo. If you choose the canonical route but defeat Raditz swiftly, Goku’s first Sparking Episode will be unlocked. This battle is quite challenging, reflecting its anime origins. If you’re having difficulty, navigate to the customization menu and equip Goku with ability capsules (Z-Early) for enhancements and an advantage in the fight.

Upon unlocking, you will embark on a story path hinted at in the early marketing for Sparking! Zero, where Goku transforms into Super Saiyan to confront Vegeta on Earth. This path is just the beginning, as it branches out into even more captivating twists.

Side by Side

Should you opt to take on Raditz by yourself, Goku will be joined by Krillin, Master Roshi, and Piccolo in the battle. It’s crucial to deplete Raditz’s health swiftly, as failure to do so might lead you back to the canonical path where Piccolo ends both Goku and Raditz’s lives.

Successfully unlocking the Side by Side path allows you to experience alternate sequences during the Saiyan Saga, now featuring some of the iconic fights from Planet Namek on Earth.

The Changing Future

Unlocking this episode is tricky. Before Goku enters the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, he has the choice to assist in the fight against Android 17 and Cell. When facing Cell, you need to defeat him while avoiding his solar flare attack. Getting hit by this moves the narrative back to the canonical route.

If you manage to take down Cell without being hit by his Solar Flare, The Changing Future along with its narrative unfolds fully, allowing the Androids to confront Goku.

Additional Paths and Endings

  • At Namek, if you vanquish Jeice without deflecting his Crusher Ball, alternate cutscenes will reveal reversed roles for Jeice and Burter.
  • Defeating Frieza without utilizing a Spirit Bomb grants you the “A Hard-Earned Victory” alternate conclusion.
  • In “The Cell Games Begin!” Goku must beat Cell while managing his health to enable him to admit defeat to Gohan, which unlocks a different ending.
  • While facing Majin Buu in “A New Power Awakens,” ensure that you defeat him before losing too much health; employing Sparking mode effectively is essential for wearing down Buu’s health and transitioning to stronger Super Saiyan forms.

  • In Super’s Frieza’s Resurrection Arc, if you swiftly defeat Frieza, you’ll see an alternative cutscene showcasing Goku besting Frieza without Whis’s intervention. Utilizing Sparking mode early and comboing into Goku’s Limit Breaker God Kamehameha will deal substantial damage before Frieza can become Golden.

Unlocking Vegeta Story & Alternate Paths in Sparking Zero

Although Vegeta is the secondary protagonist in Dragon Ball, he has less narrative content compared to Goku. Nevertheless, the Sparking Episodes and alternate endings available for him provide excellent moments for character exploration.

Parental Bond

Vegeta’s inaugural Sparking episode kicks off after his bout with Android 18. It’s a challenging battle, and the primary objective is simply to “survive.” However, if you manage to defeat her without significant health loss, the Parental Bond episode will commence.

In a subsequent cutscene within the Hyperbolic Chamber, Trunks discusses an upcoming transformation. Quickly depleting Trunks’s health will trigger the transformation, allow you to defeat him, and unveil the rest of Vegeta’s Sparking Episode. Failing to initiate the transformation leads to a return to the canonical storyline.

Number One Spot

This Sparking Episode is relatively easier to unlock. Just select the “shake off brainwashing” option during the “Vegeta’s Wicked Heart” cutscene to stop Vegeta from becoming Majin Vegeta. However, this feature might be buggy; upon returning to the cutscene, I lost the option to choose, which caused the story to progress along the canonical track. Hopefully, you won’t encounter the same glitch.

Additional Paths and Endings

  • After Vegeta allows Cell to attain his Perfect form, you’re in for a demanding encounter. You must defeat Cell quickly to unlock the secret; if Vegeta’s health drops to two bars, he will lament the need for his Final Flash attack. Take down Cell before this dialogue occurs to access a hidden ending.

  • If Vegeta can decisively defeat Kid Buu while buying time for Goku to power up, you’ll unlock an alternate ending and an additional battle. Kid Buu is aggressive and relentless, making it necessary to exhaust all strategies, including executing Vegeta’s ultimate attack.

While Gohan may not be the fan favorite at times, he provides an exhilarating experience to play in Sparking! Zero. Furthermore, he features what might be the most remarkable Sparking Episode, which I urge you to experience spoiler-free.

When Frieza returns during the Frieza’s Resurrection arc, Gohan finds himself unprepared for battle, making even the Frieza Force Soldier a threat. However, if you can defeat him quickly and deal substantial damage to Frieza while sustaining minimal damage yourself, you will unlock Gohan’s sole Sparking! Episode, which boasts the most astounding story content in the game.

Additional Paths and Endings

  • In Gohan’s “Unleashed Rage” combat, if you defeat Cell prior to Gohan articulating he deserves to suffer, you’ll reveal an alternate ending.

  • In Gohan’s final Episode Battle, if you can take down Dyspo quickly while sidestepping Gohan and Dyspo’s dual ring-out cutscene, you’ll get to see Gohan extend his participation in the Tournament of Power for a bit longer.

Unlocking Piccolo Story & Alternate Paths in Sparking Zero

In true anime fashion, Piccolo may not engage in as much fighting, but his battles are undeniably pivotal. Luckily, Sparking! Zero offers several exciting Sparking Episodes for him.

Piccolo’s Struggle

To unlock Piccolo’s bonus battle, you must swiftly overcome Frieza without showing any “struggles” —in other words, not losing excessive health. Like in the anime, Frieza will unleash numerous ki blasts, including his ultimate move, aiming to overwhelm Piccolo. Take full advantage of Sparking mode and utilize Special Beam Cannons to significantly chip away at Frieza’s health before he retaliates.

A Mentor’s Guidance

Unlocking Piccolo’s “A Mentor’s Guidance” episode is quite simple. Just opt to assist Goku during his fight against Android 19, and you will unlock an alternate story featuring everyone’s beloved green alien.

Additional Paths and Endings

  • When the Saiyans invade, defeating Nappa quickly will prevent Piccolo’s death at his hands, leading to a brief deviation from the canonical storyline.

  • Piccolo’s confrontation with Android 17 can lead to an alternate ending that is somewhat challenging to achieve. You must defeat both Android 17 and Cell without losing too much health—about a bar. This may require a change in tactics, where you focus on spamming ultimate blasts during Sparking mode while playing defensively.

Unlocking Future Trunks Story & Alternate Paths in Sparking Zero

While Future Trunks lacks playable narrative content from Dragon Ball Z, he features prominently in his own Dragon Ball Super storyline, battling Goku Black from Trunks’ own perspective.

Shining Hope

Trunks’s battles against Goku Black and Zamasu mirror Goku’s Episode Battles in terms of difficulty—though Trunks lacks the power of a Super Saiyan God. You must defeat Black and Zamasu swiftly to access the “Shining Hope.” Good luck!

Inherited Pride

Post battles with Goku Black and Zamasu, Trunks faces a significant choice—remain in the present or return to his timeline. Choosing to stay will unlock Trunks’s second Sparking Episode, offering a chance for father-son moments and correcting missed opportunities from the anime.

Unlocking Frieza Story & Alternate Paths in Sparking Zero

Although primarily a villain with occasional heroic moments, Frieza offers limited Episode Battles, but they still can branch into alternate paths.

Frieza Force Joins The Fray

To unveil Frieza’s Sparking Episode, you must defeat Goku and Vegeta during the Frieza’s Resurrection arc. Achieving a quick victory will reveal this episode. Although it’s not particularly tough, expect a wait for Frieza’s transformation to trigger due to necessary dialogue progression. Make use of Golden Frieza’s abilities to quickly access Sparking mode and feel free to unleash his ultimate move to overpower the Saiyan fighters.

Additional Paths and Endings

  • Frieza can achieve an alternate ending during the “A Blast from the Past” encounter; to succeed, you must lower Goku’s health while defeating Krillin, Gohan, and Piccolo before Goku’s Spirit Bomb is ready. Execute maximum melee combos in Sparking mode followed by your ultimate for efficiency.
  • In the “Legendary Super Saiyan” battle, if you refrain from transforming Frieza and secure victory, you’ll unlock an alternate ending. Utilize Frieza’s skills to expedite your Sparking mode activations and gain an advantage over your opponent.
  • Defeating Trunks in a straightforward fight will result in an alternate ending where Mecha Frieza seeks revenge against Goku.

Unlocking Goku Black Story & Alternate Paths in Sparking Zero

Goku Black’s Episode Battles become available from the outset, allowing players to engage with him and Fused Zamasu even before being unlocked. Although Goku Black and Zamasu faced failure in the anime, Sparking! Zero provides opportunities for them to execute their Zero Mortal Plan.

Proof of Justice

In Goku Black’s second match, titled “Act Three Begins,” you’re tasked with taking down both Vegeta and Goku rapidly to unlock Black’s Sparking Episode. Super Saiyan Rose Goku Black possesses formidable strength, yet securing these victories is manageable; you can even use dialogue as a timer for the match. When Black mentions sensing Zamasu’s ki—often as Goku nears the end of his health—you’ll know your chance has slipped away.

Additional Paths and Endings

  • Unlock “Responsibility as a God” by defeating “The Ultimate Fusion” quickly. This fight can lead to two similar endings:
    • “The Universe Gains a New Legend” is unlocked if you complete the match without Frieza transforming into Half-Corrupted Zamasu.
    • If you’re reduced to around four bars of health while facing Vegito, Zamasu will revert to his Half-Corrupted form. Beating Vegito then unlocks “Universe Illuminating God.”
  • In “Sin, Gods, and Punishment,” the aim is to be struck by Trunks’s ultimate Final Hope Slash. If you cleverly evade this attack and successfully defeat Vegito and Trunks, you will also unlock “Universe Illuminating God.”

Unlocking Jiren Story & Alternate Paths in Sparking Zero

Jiren, the primary antagonist of Dragon Ball Super, is the final character featured in Episode Battles. Despite his limited storyline due to his appearance only in Super’s final arc, his battles represent some of the game’s most formidable challenges.

True Strength

Upon starting Jiren’s saga, you are immediately presented with a decision: eliminate Kale to follow the canonical path, or select the “wait and see” option for a unique twist in his only Sparking Episode, introducing new opponents before leading back to “Ultimate Climactic Battle”for a potential alternate ending.

Additional Paths and Endings

  • You can achieve the brief “Strength Is Absolute” ending by decisively defeating Frieza, 17, and Goku towards the conclusion of the Tournament of Power.

This concludes our guide, providing you insights on how to transform and fuse during your battles.
