The initial phase of Hyper Light Breaker can be quite demanding for players, primarily due to the scarcity of healing items within the character’s arsenal. As a result, you’ll likely find yourself dying frequently, relying heavily on enemies to drop healing consumables, or mastering perfect parries. Unfortunately, the game does not provide a comprehensive explanation of the healing and Medkit mechanics. In this guide, we will clarify how to unlock a usable Medkit and replenish it to enhance your survival chances in Hyper Light Breaker.
Unlocking the Medkit in Hyper Light Breaker
To begin with, players must first unlock the Medkit to facilitate healing during their adventures in the overgrowth. Initially, you will notice that the Medkit icon next to your health bar displays a “0.”
- Head to The Cursed Outpost and interact with Pherus Bit. Navigate to the second menu.
- In this menu, you can unlock Medkits by spending a Golden Ration on “Medkit Capacity,”which is categorized as a Tier 1 EXE. This action increases your Medkit capacity from 0 to 1, enabling you to carry one Medkit at a time.
As you continue to progress in Hyper Light Breaker, you can further expand your Medkit capacity by integrating with Pherus Bit.
Refilling Your Medkit
Once you’ve unlocked the Medkit, it does not automatically come filled; you need to refill it using one of the following methods:
Medigems Method
Medigems serve as a special currency collected from interacting with unique flora found throughout the Overgrowth. These plants feature illuminated leaves or petals and prompt an “Interact” action as you approach. Below is a visual reference:
Once you’ve acquired 5 Medigems, head to a Shrine located on your map to convert the Medigems into a Medkit recharge. Each run allows for this action twice, though subsequent recharges will require 8 Medigems each.
If you have excess Medigems, remember that some will carry over upon your character’s demise and can automatically convert into a Medkit for your next run.
Additionally, collecting Medigems grants minor HP regeneration, making it beneficial to seek out these plants if your health is low.
Vendors in Overgrowth
In addition to Medigems, players can find various vendors throughout the Overgrowth that offer Medkits in exchange for Bright Blood—a resource acquired by defeating enemies or breaking crates. Be aware that many of these vendors are located behind locked doors; keys to access these areas can be discovered within treasure chests across the map, as well as by vanquishing crown enemies and vendors.
Future Considerations
As an early access title, Hyper Light Breaker continues to evolve, and it’s possible that developers will adjust the healing system. Many players currently express dissatisfaction regarding the absence of initial healing items, which can contribute to an excessively challenging early game experience. Moreover, the in-game tutorials fail to adequately clarify these mechanics, a point that we hope will be addressed in upcoming patches.
Aside from Medkits, players can also recover a small amount of health through perfect parries, which can be integral for survival.
