Disney Dreamlight Valley has introduced Flynn Rider, an essential character from the enchanting world of Rapunzel, as part of the DLC expansion, Storybook Vale. However, bringing Flynn into your village isn’t as straightforward as it may seem. Players will have to navigate through a series of tasks to locate him in one of the newly unlocked regions of the game.
Contrary to Merida, who is accessible right upon entrance to the Vale, Flynn is hidden away within a secured area. To reach this biome, players must progress through the initial chapters of Storybook Vale’s storyline and complete the quest named “A New Chapter”.
Once you’ve accomplished these objectives, your next step is to unlock the Everafter biome and seek out Flynn.
Unlocking Flynn Rider: A Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1: Unlock the Everafter Biome
Your journey begins by completing quests in Storybook Vale, particularly the chapter titled “A New Chapter.”Following your exploration of Aurora’s concealed chamber and the construction of Merida’s residence, retrace your steps to the Library of Lore.
Before proceeding, gather 2,000 Story Magic. This can be achieved by completing the “Storybook Duties” and “Storybook Vale” quests found in the Dreamlight tab on the main menu.
After amassing the necessary magic, enter the Library of Lore and head to the right-wing section. In the courtyard beyond, you’ll encounter a wall of ink that requires 2,000 Story Magic to clear. Once this wall is gone, you can access Everafter through the entrance located in the Wild Wood.
Step 2: Complete “The Wolf of the Wilds” Quest
Step 1: Navigate South of the Wild Woods
Here, you’ll discover a pavilion overrun by ink. Upon locating it, the quest “The Wolf of the Wilds” will update, prompting you to return to the Library and consult the Lorekeeper.
It’s advisable to activate any fast travel pools you encounter to facilitate quicker navigation between biomes.
After your meeting with the Lorekeeper, you’ll be directed back to Merida. She’ll mention some howling sounds in the woods and guide you back to the pavilion for the initial Fairy Tale Trail. To gain entry, you must locate a missing wheel for the activation device.
This wheel can be found in a bush at the southernmost point of this area. Follow the tracks to the bush, retrieve the wheel, return it to the activation podium, and use the net on it.
Enter the portal and proceed through the dungeon to investigate the door within. After a conversation with the “Wolf” concealed behind the door, you must prove he is not what he claims to be.
Step 2: Complete “A Sheep in Wolf’s Clothing” Quest
Start by heading up the right staircase next to the door. Utilize your net on the wheel there to unlock the door adjacent to the elevated platform, leading into a room where Wolfish Musk is concocted. Collect the required ingredients from the tables to prepare this potion. You will need:
- x1 Wolf Fur
- x1 Woodland Pine Fragrance
- x1 Oil
The resultant potion, Eau de Wolf, is a 3-star cooking recipe. Return to the main room after collecting it.
From the door where you met the “Wolf,” head left to find a wheel enveloped by Petrified Wood nodes. Clear the area and use your net on the wheel, unlocking the door to the left. Enter this space for the next puzzle challenge.
Before engaging with the puzzle located at the back of the room, make sure to clear out any Inkies and large boulders to facilitate your progress.
Interact with the clue on the podium to access the wardrobe, which contains the slippers necessary to counter the “what big feet he has” portion of your quest.
Decode the glyphs on the wall for the combination needed to unlock this wardrobe:
- I – Wolf’s Head
- II – Castle
- III – Dragon
- IV – Wheel
Once unlocked, the wardrobe will yield the Wolfish Slippers. After securing these, return to the main area to undertake your final challenge.
Approach the last door, where you’ll discover a plate in the floor adorned with a glowing question mark. The solution to this puzzle is conveniently located above the doorway. Use a shovel to dig until you expose a castle image, which will unlock and reveal the door.
This concluding puzzle, associated with “what a fierce howl he has,” requires you to arrange the proper building materials in designated spots. The materials you’ll need are:
- I – Straw
- II – Logs
- III – Bricks
After arranging these, collect the Howling Gramophone before confronting the Wolf.
Step 3: Free Flynn
Return to the door where you interacted with the wolf. Present the items to demonstrate that the figure behind the door is not a menacing creature. The door opens to reveal Flynn Rider, who has been ensnared in a role associated with the Big Bad Wolf due to a spell cast within the dungeon.
He’s confused about how he ended up in this perilous situation and instructs you to poke at the “source of corruption” behind him. Doing so will eradicate it from the dungeon, causing a swift transport for both you and Flynn out of the Trial Dungeon.
Step 4: Welcome Flynn to Storybook Vale
To complete “The Wolf of the Wilds,” select a location to place Flynn’s home. This will integrate him into Storybook Vale. Once his residence is established, he will officially join the Vale and begin to roam.
Step 5: Complete “The Company of the Wolf” Quest
Post his confrontation with Maleficent’s influence, Flynn exhibits some lingering wolfish traits and requests your assistance to reclaim himself.
Step 1: Frog Catching Initiative
To begin, return to The Wild Woods and catch five Frog Snippets.
Once you’ve gathered the Snippets, return to Flynn. He will direct you to the Lorekeeper in search of a solution to manage the Snippets that are overwhelming him.
Fortunately, the Lorekeeper has a remedy in the form of Basic Faerie Snippet Repellent, though it comes at a cost.
Step 2: Craft the Basic Faerie Snippet Repellent
To create this repellent, gather the following items:
- x1 Star Sapphire
- x1 Lamprey
- x5 Petrified Wood
- x10 Volcanic Rock
- 500 Storybook Magic
Petrified Wood can be easily mined from nodes within The Library of Lore.
To catch the Lamprey, fish in the waters of The Wild Woods, particularly in the elusive gold fishing circles.
Find Star Sapphires by mining from blue stone nodes in The Wild Woods. They have a distinct star shape, making them easy to spot. For a better gemstone yield, use a Pickaxe Polish potion.
Volcanic Rock can be a rare find while digging in The Wild Woods.
After collecting the necessary materials, return to your crafting station to create the Basic Faerie Snippet Repellent. Once prepared, place the repellent outside Flynn’s house, then track him down.
Step 3: Discover Flynn’s Buried Treasures
After alleviating the Snippets, Flynn will confess that his wolfish tendencies led him to pilfer and conceal items that didn’t belong to him. Head to his home to recover three stolen items. Once retrieved, you will need to return them to their rightful owners.
Step 4: Return the Treasures to Their Owners
The items you will excavate, along with their rightful owners, are:
- BnL Fishing Cooler – Wall-E
- Photo Album – Mirabel
- Picture Frame – Mickey Mouse
Don’t worry, you won’t need to travel back to the valley to return these items. All three characters will show up in the Vale. Locate them on the map and drop off their missing belongings. Finally, return to Flynn’s house to inform him of your successful retrieval.
Step 5: Offer Dating Advice
Upon entering Flynn’s home, you’ll find it in disarray. After some light-hearted banter, Flynn will express that he misses Rapunzel. To help him gain the confidence he needs, you must speak to Kristoff, who has also made his way to the Vale. Track him down and persuade him to provide some guidance.
While they discuss dating advice, you’ll need to tidy up Flynn’s messy abode as he is among the more high-maintenance villagers in Disney Dreamlight Valley.
Once you have cleaned, engage in conversation first with Kristoff and then with Flynn to complete “The Company of the Wolf” quest.
Flynn Rider’s Friendship Quests
Level 4 Friendship Quest: Completing “Memory Lane”
To initiate this quest, players must fulfill several prerequisites including:
- Unlocking Hades
- Leveling Flynn to Level 4
- Being up to date with Merlin
- Unlocking the Elysian Fields in Mythopia
Once these tasks are accomplished, converse with Flynn to embark on the quest “Memory Lane.” He will recommend that you consult the Lorekeeper for insights into a troubling memory he’s grappling with.
The Lorekeeper will state that they cannot assist directly, but you can help by retrieving Flynn’s memory when it becomes available. Catch the blue orb once it pops out from the Lorekeeper’s book.
Step 1: Gather Potion Materials
The memory indicates a troubling vision of Flynn kneeling at the feet of Maleficent. Although confused, you know it’s time to seek help from Ursula, who has coincidentally arrived in Storybook Vale.
After consulting with Ursula, she will instruct you to collect ingredients for a memory potion, including:
- x1 Sea Monster Tooth
- x5 Salt Crystals
- x5 Lightning
- x8 Olives
- x16 Petrified Wood
How to Acquire Salt Crystals in Disney Dreamlight Valley
Among these, Salt Crystals will be the hardest to find. You must fish for them in regions free from ripples within the Everafter biome. They are uniquely dropped here.
Sea Monster Tooth can be fished from the rippled waters of The Wild Woods, while Lightning Spice can be collected from the bolts protruding from the ground.
After gathering all items, return to Ursula for the memory potion. She will prepare it for Flynn. Once concocted, head back to his house to provide him with the potion.
Step 2: Help Flynn Remember
Upon delivering the potion, a second memory will be triggered. This memory displays Flynn gazing at a wanted poster featuring Aurora. Unfortunately, this fragmented recollection doesn’t clarify his connection with Maleficent.
However, Flynn does recall that he was searching for Aurora in Mythopia, making Hades your next destination. Utilize fast travel to reach The Elysian Fields and converse with Hades for further clarification.
Step 3: Insights from Hades
After your exchange with Hades, he will suggest looking inside his residence for potential clues. Explore his home to uncover more information.
Within, check the chest situated left of the door to find Aurora’s Tiara. Retrieve it and share it with Flynn at his home to release his final memory.
The last vision reveals Flynn seated on a log, cradling Aurora’s Tiara, confirming he was indeed the one pursuing her. Regrettably, he is still puzzled about his motivations.
Regardless of the unanswered questions, this will complete the quest “Memory Lane” .
