Players can now experience Red Dead Redemption on PC, thanks to the collaboration between Double Eleven and Rockstar Games. This highly anticipated port has successfully updated the beloved classic for modern gaming systems, including the PC environment. However, it’s worth noting that Red Dead Redemption currently has a framerate limit of 144 FPS, even if your hardware is capable of exceeding that threshold. Fortunately, the modding community has stepped in to address this limitation by unlocking the framerate, and below are the steps to install this mod.
How to Unlock the Framerate in Red Dead Redemption
Created by NexusMods user Clippy95, this mod effectively removes the 144 FPS cap on Red Dead Redemption, allowing players to push the limit up to a maximum of 1000 FPS. I tested the mod on my RTX 4070 Super paired with a Ryzen 7 5700X3D, and it works flawlessly.
Installing the mod is straightforward; follow the instructions below:
- First, visit Nexus Mods to download the mod files. An account is required for this.
- After downloading the zip file, extract it to the folder where Red Dead Redemption is installed on your PC.
- Start Red Dead Redemption and set the “Framerate Limit” option to 144 FPS.
Once you complete these steps, the framerate should be unlocked while playing. Based on my experience so far, the mod does not interfere with the game’s operations. You can adjust the framerate to suit your preferences using tools like the NVIDIA Control Panel or AMD Adrenaline, particularly if your framerate exceeds your monitor’s refresh rate.
For those with NVIDIA hardware, utilizing NVIDIA Reflex alongside G-Sync will allow for a framerate cap that corresponds with your monitor’s refresh rate. This setup pairs seamlessly with the mod, eliminating the need for manual adjustments.
How to Remove the Mod
If you wish to uninstall the mod, it’s a simple process. Navigate to your Red Dead Redemption installation folder and remove the following files:
SUWSF.inidinput8.dllSWUSF.asi
This mod also integrates well with Rose’s patch for enabling ultrawide support in cutscenes for Red Dead Redemption.
