While Mirthwood may appear abundant in timber, the reality is quite different. Obtaining hardwood, in particular, poses a significant challenge. This guide will explore how to efficiently gather hardwood in Mirthwood, ensuring you don’t miss out on this vital resource.
Where to Find Hardwood in Mirthwood
Contrary to its name, Mirthwood is not a straightforward place to gather wood. To collect hardwood, you must equip yourself with at least an Iron Axe. Hardwood can be harvested by chopping down large circular tree stumps using an Iron Axe, while fallen tree trunks yield even more hardwood when processed with a Steel Axe.
However, it’s important to note that stumps and fallen trunks are relatively rare outside your farmland. Fortunately, the resources on your farm regenerate every 2-3 in-game days, allowing you to repeatedly harvest hardwood from your own stumps and fallen logs, creating a sustainable supply.
Upgrading Your Axe in Mirthwood
To begin collecting hardwood, you need to upgrade from the basic Copper Axe to at least an Iron Axe. This requires gathering the necessary materials: 10 Iron Bars, 1 Copper Axe, and 1 Iron Tool Kit, which can be obtained from the Blacksmith for a price of $750.
To craft Iron Bars, you first need a Furnace, which is made using 40 Stone. Afterward, an Anvil, crucial for crafting tools, can be created using 15 Stone and 2 Iron Bars.
While crafting tools can be tricky, upgrading your gear is essential for accessing higher-tier resources. The Steel Axe not only facilitates hardwood gathering but also allows you to extract ore from certain veins, letting you expand your resource collection capabilities.
Utilizing Hardwood in Mirthwood
Hardwood is a key ingredient for crafting some of the most valuable items in the game. Notably, you will need it for the Small Barn and the Hardwood Bow. The Small Barn requires 50 Stone, 100 Hardwood, 500 Wood, and 1 Barn Drawing to build, but it’s a worthwhile investment as it can house up to four large animals and boost their happiness.
As for the Hardwood Bow, crafting it necessitates 50 Hardwood and 5 Iron Bars. This bow significantly enhances the damage of long-range shots, making it indispensable for hunting quick creatures like Rabbits and Deer. Additionally, a Hardwood Bow proves advantageous in combat situations, enhancing your overall gameplay experience.
