Unlocking Severance’s Biggest Questions: Discover the Secrets of the Exports Hall

In the latest episode of Severance—Season 2, Episode 5, titled “Trojan’s Horse”—viewers are once again drawn into the eerie atmosphere of the Exports Hall. This setting may be crucial in unveiling the hidden secrets that Lumon Industries has long kept under wraps.

While fans eagerly anticipate more revelations, it’s apparent that the events of Season 2 will not answer every lingering question, as work progresses on the show’s third season. Director Ben Stiller has hinted at further narrative developments in the future.

This season has already delivered significant insight, particularly in Episode 3, where Felicia from the O&D department clarifies that the Testing Floor is referred to as the Exports Hall. Following the earlier calamity known as ORTBO, Episode 5 unfolds with the introduction of a new character responsible for transporting goods to this enigmatic lower level.Caution: Spoilers ahead!

Understanding the Exports Hall

The Exports Hall (or Testing Floor) is located within Lumon Industries’ headquarters in Kier, directly beneath the Severed Floor. It has been suggested that certain employees are sent there for a process referred to as recalibration, although this remains unverified. In Season 1, we witness Ms. Casey being escorted down to this area by Ms. Cobel, who instructs Milchick to take her to the Testing Floor. This scene is marked by Ms. Casey traversing a dimly lit corridor that leads to an elevator, indicated by a downward-pointing red arrow.

Interestingly, this corridor is the very same walkway that Irving’s Outie continuously recreates in his artwork, hinting at a potential memory crossover from his Innie self. Perhaps these drawings serve as a mechanism for him to retain memories of this space.

In Episode 3 of Season 2, it is revealed that Irving’s Innie engages in a similar activity for his colleague Burt. While visiting Felicia, he reveals a notebook filled with sketches of Burt, stating, “I draw one every day I couldn’t see him.” Notably, Felicia’s examination of the sketches leads her to a page depicting the Testing Floor instead of Burt—this insight comes after witnessing Irving’s Outie’s previous paintings during the Overtime Contingency Protocol.

Felicia, curious, inquires, “How do you know about the Exports Hall?” adding intrigue by mentioning the frequency of shipments sent there, stating, “We used to go ourselves, but now they send a guy.” The scene shifts before we learn more, suggesting that information is gradually surfacing.

In Episode 5, we again see the entrance to the Exports Hall as the unnamed ‘guy’ Felicia mentioned walks through the pristine white corridors of the Severed Floor, unhurriedly wheeling a cart while whistling a tune. Approaching the O&D department, he encounters Felicia and another familiar face from Season 1. He discreetly navigates through the office, partially obscured by a strategically placed shelving unit.

Questioning the employees about whether they have a specific item, he receives a tray filled with what appears to be a variety of dental tools. After thanking them, he proceeds down the corridor and towards the Exports Hall.

Later in the episode, Dylan discovers a map hidden behind the ‘Hang in There’ poster in the Break Room, a reference to Irving’s parting words in Episode 4. This map sketches out the Exports Hall and includes detailed directions towards it. While the nature of what occurs in the Exports Hall remains shrouded in mystery, it appears the Innies are edging closer to uncovering the truth.

Speculative Theories Surrounding the Exports Hall

As the suspense builds, theorists are at work, positing various hypotheses. A popular notion suggests Lumon may be involved in a scheme to clone individuals. One fan expressed this theory via Twitter, suggesting that “the severed employees are constructing a clone of Kier Egan for the purposes of immortality.”

According to this theory, “MDR is in charge of his memories/brain, the goats represent clones, Ms. Casey is a creation from the Testing Floor, while Optics focuses on scientific devices from the Exports Hall.” However, both Adam Scott and other cast members have refuted the cloning speculation ahead of Season 2’s release.

Other theories speculate that the Exports Hall may serve as a location where Innies undergo complete personality resets, or that the O&D department holds more secrets than they are letting on. A Reddit user speculated, “I think O&D is more nefarious than we initially believed, and they are fully aware of it, ” suggesting that they may be directly involved with the Testing Floor and its mysterious inhabitants.

While the episode introduces new characters, it confirms that the familiar Milchick is not the one delivering goods to the Exports Hall. One thing remains clear: the Exports Hall might just be the key to uncovering the truths surrounding Lumon, and the Innies could be on the brink of a significant breakthrough.
