Despite not being a widely discussed aspect of the manga series, the dynamics between Gojo and Yuta have been present since the beginning of Jujutsu Kaisen. As the final chapter approaches in just a few days, it is worth noting that although Yuta’s admiration for his mentor may seem one-sided to outsiders, Gojo has always had unwavering faith in his student, even if he playfully teases him for his shortcomings in battle.
Despite the strong bond between the Jujutsu High teacher and his other students, such as Itadori, his relationship with Yuta was characterized by an unspoken understanding. They both recognized each other’s potential and remained supportive during difficult times. This was evident in their joint planning for the worst-case scenario against Sukuna, without ever questioning each other’s abilities.

Jujutsu Kaisen: Exploring Gojo and Yuta’s Dynamics That Went Underappreciated by the Fandom
Yuta Okkotsu is a significant protagonist in the series, debuting in the film Jujutsu Kaisen 0. He was initially presented in Maki’s class as a special-grade cursed sorcerer, afflicted by the curse of his childhood friend, Rika. Determined to mold him into a skilled sorcerer, Gojo assigned Yuta to his class and allowed his students to teach him the fundamentals of cursed energy manipulation.
After completing Jujutsu Kaisen 0, Yuta gained a thorough understanding of cursed energy manipulation and successfully removed the curse from his childhood friend, transforming it into his own cursed technique. As a result, he and Miguel were dispatched to Yuta’s homeland to further his training in the cursed technique.
The sorcerer reappeared during the Execution arc for Itadori, where he confronted the young boy and disclosed that he was the student Gojo had always mentioned. The two of them then embarked on training together and joined forces for the Culling Game arc. At the conclusion of this arc, they successfully freed Gojo from the Prison Realm. The next challenge was the battle against Sukuna, for which everyone had prepared extensively.
The primary focus of this training revolved around utilizing Ui Ui’s cursed technique. Each participant agreed to switch bodies with a fellow sorcerer in order to gain new knowledge and skills. Yuta and Gojo specifically swapped bodies as part of Gojo’s plan to instruct Yuta on how to properly utilize his own body in the event of a defeat against Sukuna, should Yuta need to take over Gojo’s body.
Throughout the training, Gojo continuously teased and ridiculed Yuta for struggling to adjust to his body, despite the fact that they were both highly skilled sorcerers. In contrast, Yuta persistently reminded everyone that they should not rely solely on the Honored One to save them in any given circumstance.
Despite the appearance of a lack of chemistry between the sorcerers, the truth is quite the opposite. Gojo’s teasing of Yuta was actually a way of motivating him to mature and become more powerful, possibly because Gojo foresaw his own death in the future. This could explain why Gojo trusted Yuta to handle matters in his absence. Yuta, in contrast, always had faith in his teacher and was aware of his great potential from the beginning.
While the dynamic between Gojo and Itadori can be compared to that of a student and teacher, the relationship between Gojo and Yuta is more akin to colleagues who are aware of each other’s strengths and weaknesses. However, despite this interesting dynamic, it has not been discussed enough by the fandom.
Despite Gojo’s death, Yuta managed to transfer his consciousness into the body of the Honored One. This gave him the opportunity to continue appreciating his teacher, who had spent his entire life using such a cursed and energy-depleting body.
