Two fresh faces have joined the ranks in Disney Dreamlight Valley, but the journey to securing Timon and Pumbaa is far from a leisurely stroll.
Typically, when new characters become available in Disney Dreamlight Valley, they don’t immediately take up residence in your world. Most often, enlisting their company involves completing quests, concocting recipes, crafting items, or solving various puzzles. This certainly holds true for Timon and Pumbaa from The Lion King; while their ethos is centered around ‘Hakuna Matata,’ they introduce their fair share of obstacles before becoming part of your adventure.
To assist you in fully adopting the Hakuna Matata spirit, we’ve compiled a detailed guide on how to unlock Timon and Pumbaa in Disney Dreamlight Valley.
Unlocking Timon and Pumbaa
Completing the ‘Finding Old Friends’ Quest
Your quest begins with a conversation with Simba, who expresses concern that his friends, Timon and Pumbaa, are lost in the Lion King Realm. He requests your assistance in checking up on them. Thus, venture back into the Lion King Realm.
Step 1: Locate Timon and Pumbaa
Upon your arrival, take the path to the left and proceed through the cave to reach the duo. They’ll promptly inform you that you’re too stressed for their liking and challenge you to partake in some Hakuna Matata lessons.
Step 2: Construct a Crafting Station
Your next task is to craft a Crafting Station. You’ll require the following materials:
- 4 Jungle Stones
- 4 Jungle Wood
- 4 Red Jungle Leaves
You’ll be able to find all of these materials within the Lion King Realm, so no need to return to the Valley just yet. They resemble typical sticks and stones, while the Jungle Leaves can be spotted on the ground.
Step 3: Create a Fake Lion Mane
To craft the Fake Lion Mane, use the four Red Jungle Leaves collected earlier.
Open your Crafting Table, select Functional Items, and you’ll find the Red Leafy Mane option at the top. Simply select it and create your new look.
Next, access your wardrobe and equip the Mane.
Step 4: Retrieve a Crown and Craft a Vial
After donning your new gear, follow Timon and Pumbaa into the woods and listen closely to their discussion. They will express a desire for you to release your past by creating something like a crown—which you’ll break as a symbolic gesture.
To achieve this, you’ll need to craft an Empty Vial and fish for a crown.
The Empty Vial requires Sand, which is also available within the Lion King Realm; gather some and head to the Crafting Table to create the vial.
For the crown, search for it in the golden ripples while navigating the log near one of the Valley checkpoints, right before the cave’s entrance.
Retrieve the crown, return to Timon and Pumbaa, place it on the stone, and then grab your Pickaxe to shatter it.
Step 5: Let Go of Your Worries
Leading Timon and Pumbaa back to the crown’s location, they will advise you to express all your current worries. Take the time to share your concerns with Timon and bottle them in the Empty Vial you previously crafted. Subsequently, dispose of the vial in the river.
Return to the camp with Pumbaa and Timon, and prepare for bed by clearing away leaves surrounding the campfire. Afterward, say goodnight and settle into your bed while they converse.
Completing the ‘Relax!’ Quest
Step 1: Create a Relaxing Hammock
A new day dawns, and Pumbaa will ask you to construct a relaxing hammock for your next challenge.
The Relaxing Hammock requires the following ingredients:
- 6 Vines
- 2 Sticky Sap
Vines can be found strewn across the ground in the Realm; they require digging, but a single vine yields two materials, so you won’t need to dig for six separately.
Sticky Sap can be harvested from trees with a yellow substance on them. Simply interact with these trees to gather what you need.
With your materials in hand, proceed to the Crafting Table and assemble your new hammock found under Functional Items. Afterwards, sit on it and converse with Pumbaa once more.
Step 2: Search for the Perfect Napping Spots
Pumbaa will then ask you to explore potential napping locations scattered throughout the Realm, particularly focusing on leafy chairs. Here’s where you can find them:
After exploring, you’ll need to decide on the best napping spot by speaking to Pumbaa. We recommend selecting the one located near the camp for its convenience.
Step 3: Water the Dried Mud Piles
Once you’ve made your selection, water the nearby dried mud piles. You’ll find them conveniently close to your conversation point with Pumbaa.
Afterward, run through the mud with Pumbaa and head back to Jungle Camp.
Cook Roasted Jungle Fireflies
Your subsequent task involves cooking some delicious Roasted Jungle Fireflies—at least according to Pumbaa. To do this, gather three Roasted Jungle Fireflies, which can be located throughout the Lion King Realm, specifically near the Camp, River, and Oasis.
They look like the image shown below and are thankfully a bit slower compared to those pesky bugs in Belle’s unlock quest!
After securing the fireflies, head to a nearby cooking station, situated near the cave by the river, and prepare the Roasted Jungle Fireflies. Finally, deliver the cooked dish to Pumbaa, snap a photo of the trio, and revisit your leafy bed for another night.
Finding Pumbaa Quest
Step 1: Search for Pumbaa
Pumbaa has gone missing on this occasion, and it’s up to you to track him down. We stumbled upon him trapped in a log at the Oasis—the area where you initially spawn.
Check on him and have a chat with Timon. Following this, take a picture of Pumbaa to brainstorm ways to rescue him. Timon will conclude that they need a slippery oil for the rescue mission.
Step 2: Create Super Slippery Bug Oil
To concoct this, gather two Yellow Oily Bugs, one Blue Oily Bug, and one Red Oily Bug. Search for these bugs by breaking rocks scattered in the jungle, as not every rock will house them. Our finds were near the River and Oasis.
To cook up the Super Slippery Bug Oil, blend one Green Bug Oil and one Orange Bug Oil in your cooking station.
Craft these items using the following combinations:
- Green Bug Oil: Yellow and Blue Oily Bugs
- Orange Bug Oil: Red and Yellow Oily Bugs
Once you’ve created the oils, combine them at the cooking station and present the oily mixture to Timon. He will enhance your watering can, allowing you to free Pumbaa by dousing him.
Step 3: Craft a Reinforced Plunger
Unfortunately, this method won’t work, and you’ll need to consult Goofy for a solution. Return to the Valley and find him.
Goofy will provide you with a plunger, but this alone won’t do the trick; you’ll require a Reinforced Plunger.
Unlike the previous items, crafting the Reinforced Plunger necessitates materials sourced from the main Valley. You’ll need:
- 10 Iron Ingots
- 10 Rope
- 5 Tourmaline
- 15 Hardwood
Iron Ingots can be mined from spots located in the Forest of Valor, Glade of Trust, Frosted Heights, Vitalys Mines, and Sunlit Plateau. You can also purchase them from Kristoff’s stall. To create Ingots, melt Iron Ore with coal.
Rope requires some fishing; you’ll need a total of eight fibers to make one rope, summing to 80 fibers for ten ropes. To gather fiber, catch Seaweed found outside designated fishing spots at Dazzle Beach. One seaweed piece yields five fibers, which means you need 16 Seaweeds for ten ropes.
Tourmaline is mined in the Frosted Heights and Sunlit Plateau. This pink gem can be elusive, so consider using Miracle Pickaxe Polish for luck.
Collecting Hardwood is easier; it can be found on the ground throughout the Forest of Valor, Sunlit Plateau, Frosted Heights, and Glade of Trust. If struggling to locate it, planting more trees may help your cause.
Once crafted, return to the Lion King Realm and free Pumbaa at last.
Soon after, Timon will realize just how vital friendship is, appreciating Pumbaa’s company even more. The two will happily agree to join the Valley!
Step 4: Invite Pumbaa and Timon to Join the Valley
Having chatted with Timon, you can now extend an invitation to Pumbaa. Afterward, speak to Pumbaa again to officially welcome Timon as well.
You now have all the essential information to invite Pumbaa and Timon into your Disney Dreamlight Valley experience. We will continue to update this article as more friendship quests become available. In the meantime, feel free to explore the current Star Path or browse through all available recipes, which thankfully don’t all involve bugs (apologies to Timon and Pumbaa).
