The Zoro vs S-Hawk Fight in One Piece Episode 1109

One Piece chapter 1109, titled “A Tough Decision! An Unusual United Front!”, began with a flashback from the previous episode in which Zoro identified the abilities being used by S-Hawk. These abilities were similar to those of the Dice-Dice devil fruit, which was held by Daz Bones of the Baroque Works organization.

As Luffy and Zoro carried Lucci and Kaku, S-Hawk and S-Bear launched their attacks towards the Straw Hats. Zoro took on S-Hawk in a fierce battle while Luffy tossed Kaku into the air. Much to their surprise, the fight between the Straw Hats and the Seraphim involved a lot of intricate martial arts techniques.

S-Hawk unleashed the full potential of the Dice-Dice fruit, converting his arms and legs into razor-sharp weapons. Despite Luffy’s attempts to strike the Seraphim, they proved futile. As the episode progressed, the Seraphim regathered while the focus shifted to the opposite side of Egghead Island.

The fans were astounded, particularly by the appearance of S-Hawk. Roronoa Zoro’s demonic aura reminded many fans of Gear 5 Luffy’s intense battle against Rob Lucci in the Egghead arc. Although Luffy’s appearance in that fight was also menacing, S-Hawk’s image was even more unsettling and frightening.

Despite being a weekly anime, Toei Animation consistently delivers impressive fight scenes that leave fans in awe. One particular fan even wanted to acknowledge the key animator behind the latest episode’s animation. Vincent Chansard, a former MAPPA animator who recently joined the One Piece team in 2024, is credited as the key animator for this episode and is reportedly planning to stay for a year.

“Bro looks more terrifying than Luffy during the Lucci sequence,”a fan claimed

“This is a weekly anime btw. I wonder who did the animation for this?? They cooked,”another fan said

“SERAPHIM HAD ME SHOOK. I was lowkey scared,”another one claimed

Conversely, certain fans chose to ridicule their opposing fandom. When Zoro showcased a pivotal moment in this chapter by engaging in a challenging battle against one of the most powerful Seraphims, these fans asserted that Vinsmoke Sanji would never be capable of such an achievement.

A fan even expressed curiosity about the actual abilities of the real Mihawk, upon which the S-Hawk Seraphim model is based. Many fans believe that S-Hawk was a powerful demon in the episode, and they eagerly anticipate seeing more depictions of the Seraphim in the future.

“Sanji could never,”a fan claimed

“If s hawk is doing this i cant imagine the real mihawk,”another fan said

“Holy sh*t they made S-Hawk look like a f*cking demon,”another one claimed

Concluding Remarks

Despite having minimal involvement in the source material, the manga series, the episode focused entirely on S-Hawk. Fans can credit Vincent Chansard for this decision as it ultimately proved to be a successful choice in giving S-Hawk the spotlight.

In addition to this particular episode, Vincent Chansard was also a part of several other popular episodes, including the King vs Zoro episode where the swordsman was crowned the King of Hell.
