According to its glowing Pokedex entries over the years, fans believe that one of Gen 1’s strongest Pokemon should have been in the Legendary tier.
Despite their struggles in the days of Pokemon Red & Blue, Fighting-type Pokemon were still able to hold their own. The dominance of Psychic-type Pokemon, with their impressive stats and minimal weaknesses, made it difficult for Fighting-types to compete. Even when facing off against top tier Normal-types such as Snorlax and Tauros, Fighting-type moves were not as effective.
The Machamp line, which was previously not highly regarded, had to wait until Pokemon Gold & Silver to gain relevance. With the nerf to Psychic-types and the introduction of new types in Gen 2 (Dark and Steel) that were weak against Fighting-types, the Machamp line suddenly became a viable choice.
According to users on the Pokemon Reddit, a Pokemon’s strength cannot solely be determined by its stats. The Pokedex suggests that Machamp’s power rivals that of Legendary or Mythical Pokemon.
According to the original poster, the “Silver”entry states that this creature has the ability to throw someone over the horizon. The “Crystal”entry mentions its quick reflexes, capable of outpacing a Pokemon’s thoughts. In the “Diamond”Pokedex entry, it is stated that this being can throw a thousand punches in just two seconds. Furthermore, the “LGPE”entry confirms its immense strength, able to move mountains with just one arm.
Despite the Pokedex’s claims, not everyone was convinced of its accuracy. One user commented, “The description says it can move faster than thought and throw 1000 punches, but its speed stat is only 55 lol.”Another person added, “It seems to be overshadowed by Conkeldurr, the Pokemon with the comical nose.”
Despite being considered a reliable source of information, Pokedex entries are often inaccurate and filled with mythical tales rather than factual details. For instance, according to the Pokedex, Froslass stores frozen cadavers in its den, a seemingly implausible behavior in the world of Pokemon.
Despite Machamp’s impressive design, which could easily be considered Legendary, its actual performance in competitive Pokemon battles has been inconsistent, often falling short when compared to the well-established powerhouses of the series.
