Following the release of Oshi no Ko chapter 159, the manga depicted the consequences of Fuyuko Niino’s stabbing of “Ruby Hoshino.”This turn of events left fans fearful, as if Ruby had been stabbed without warning, she could have met the same fate as her mother, Ai Hoshino, who tragically died at the start of the series.
Despite potentially surviving the ordeal, there was still a possibility that her injury could have resulted in the cancellation or postponement of the final B-Komachi live concert. This would have ultimately devastated Kana Arima’s farewell segment.
However, Oshi no Ko chapter 159 revealed that none of these events actually occurred. This was all thanks to Akane Kurokawa once again stepping in to save the day. As a result, many fans began to recognize her as the true protagonist of the manga series.

How Akane Kurokawa Saved Ruby Hoshino in Oshi no Ko Chapter 159
In chapter 158 of Oshi no Ko, the final pages revealed a shocking event on Christmas Day. Fuyuko Niino, in an attempt to prevent Ruby Hoshino from surpassing her mother Ai as an idol, stabbed her at her doorstep. This tragic scene brought back memories of Ai’s untimely death and left fans concerned for the well-being of the young idol.
Despite previous speculation, it was not Ruby who was stabbed by Niino in Oshi no Ko chapter 159. Instead, it was Akane Kurokawa, who had cleverly disguised herself as Ruby by wearing a wig. Akane had taken extra precautions by wearing a knife-proof vest to ensure her safety. Meanwhile, the real Ruby was already at the concert venue, getting ready for her performance. Thanks to Akane’s quick thinking, Ruby was successfully protected.
It should be noted that Akane was ready for this event well in advance, which is why she was able to attend B-Komachi’s Miyazaki concert. Fans should keep this in mind.
Why are fans hailing Akane as the true main character of Oshi no Ko?
Despite being the true protagonists of the manga series, Aqua and Ruby Hoshino are often overshadowed by Akane, who is hailed as the main character due to her significant impact on the storyline. This is a trait that the real protagonists often lacked, making Akane a crucial figure in the series.
Akane’s intervention was crucial in several key plot points in the story. In fact, some of these plot points did not involve Aqua and Ruby at all, leaving Akane to handle them on their own in the series.
Additionally, while Aqua Hoshino’s deductions about Hikaru Kamiki occurred off-screen, viewers were able to witness Akane Kurokawa’s deductions in real time. In any type of media, the character who solves the mystery is typically viewed as the main character. Therefore, it was unusual for Akane to fulfill this role but not be recognized as the protagonist.
As a result of the events in Oshi no Ko chapter 159, where Akane rescued Ruby and confronted Niino about her past behavior, fans could no longer tolerate the mistreatment of Akane Kurokawa. Consequently, they praised the Lala Lai actress as the rightful protagonist of the series.
