In the latest episode of KBS2’s Wednesday-Thursday drama “Perfect Family” , which aired on September 11th, the troubled past between Choi Jin-hyuk (played by Kim Byung-chul) and Choi Hyun-min (played by Yoon Sang-hyun) began to unravel.
Jin-hyuk opened up to Detective Shin Dong-ho (played by Kim Do-hyun), detailing his difficult history with Hyun-min. He revealed that Hyun-min had tragically killed his own son and spent 12 years in prison. After his release, he resorted to blackmailing Jin-hyuk, using Jin-hyuk’s daughter, Choi Sun-hee (played by Park Joo-hyun), as leverage for money.
The episode also unveiled the truth behind Park Kyung-ho’s (played by Kim Young-dae) death. On the night of the fire, Hyun-min saw Eun-joo (played by Yoon Se-ah) attending to Kyung-ho. In exchange for covering up the incident, he extorted money from Eun-joo, who, terrified that Sun-hee would be accused of murder, complied with his demands. This moment highlighted her desperation as a protective mother, resonating with the audience. It was later disclosed that Hyun-min was responsible for starting the fire after Eun-joo departed Kyung-ho’s residence, shocking viewers.
Faced with Hyun-min’s unyielding demands, Jin-hyuk and Eun-joo decided to send Sun-hee abroad for safety. Additionally, they devised a plan to eliminate Hyun-min by preparing peanut powder, aware of his severe allergy, which resolved Sun-hee’s misconceptions about her parents’ intentions. After revealing the truth, Jin-hyuk and Eun-joo started collaborating closely with Detective Dong-ho.
Meanwhile, a tense confrontation unfolded in an abandoned warehouse by the docks, where Hyun-min had taken Sun-hee hostage. Jin-hyuk arrived with the money, as demanded, but Hyun-min reneged on his promise and pointed a gun at Sun-hee.
In a dramatic turn, a sniper positioned nearby shot Hyun-min, temporarily diffusing the situation. However, Sun-hee ran toward her biological father, leaving Jin-hyuk in emotional turmoil. Hyun-min, injured and barely standing, held a gun to Sun-hee’s head and retreated back into the warehouse. Sun-hee felt an undeniable pull towards Hyun-min, desperately trying to staunch his bleeding wound.
Consumed by anger, Jin-hyuk burst into the warehouse and engaged in a fierce struggle with Hyun-min. The two fell out of a window, leaving Sun-hee in a state of despair.
As the episode closed, revelations about the connection between Jin-hyuk and Hyun-min emerged. Their fateful entanglement began with a happy-slapping case. Viewers learned that Jin-hyuk’s actual name is Choi Hyun-min, hinting at deeper narratives surrounding his identity that have yet to be explored. Episode 9 of “Perfect Family” gradually unveiled past secrets, providing answers to some viewer questions while leaving the conflict between Jin-hyuk and Hyun-min unresolved, intriguing audiences about their fates in the upcoming episodes. “Perfect Family” Episode 10 is set to air at 9:50 PM on September 12th.
