The Rise of Nightwing
Nightwing #113 celebrates 300 issues of the former Robin’s superhero adventures.
About the issue: It’s a landmark 300th issue! Since the 1940s, readers have witnessed the evolution of Dick Grayson from an acrobat to an orphan, from Robin to Nightwing. They have followed his journey alongside the universe’s mightiest heroes, battling against the most formidable villains. Our thoughts: I have always been a huge fan of Nightwing from the DC universe, but it was during the iconic era of Chuck Dixon and Scott McDaniel that I truly fell in love with the character. It may seem surreal, considering the challenges faced, but reaching the milestone of 300 issues is a testament to Nightwing’s enduring popularity. As a devoted follower, it brings me immense joy to see Dick Grayson recognized not only as a fan-favorite in a long-running series, but also as one of the most prominent figures in the DC Universe. While this issue will likely set the stage for the upcoming Fallen Grayson storyline, I am eagerly anticipating the celebration promised in this special edition.
The Man of Steel Returns
Superman and Lobo come face-to-face in the second part of House of Brainiac.
Synopsis: In an unexpected twist, Superman and Lobo join forces as they embark on a mission to track down the Lobo Army and stop Brainiac. Their journey takes them across the universe, but their ability to work together is put to the test. With the fate of the universe at stake, can they put aside their differences and prevent Brainiac’s destructive plans?
Our thoughts: The initial installment of House of Brainiac proved to be a delightful surprise, as it featured an epic showdown between Superman and the combined might of Brainiac and a horde of Lobo clones. And if that wasn’t enough to capture your attention, the ominous final scene featuring every previous incarnation of Brainiac surely foreshadows a ghastly turn of events. This week, the original “main man”himself, Lobo, takes center stage once again, hopefully bringing back some of the lightheartedness that was present in his appearances in Justice League of America and Lobo and Crush stories.
The Final Stand of House X
With Sentinel City rising, the X-Men prepare to make their last stand for the fate of all mutants in Fall of the House of X #4.
About the story: In MY ALLY, MY ENEMY, it is believed that an injured animal can be the most dangerous to confront. As the mutants and Orchis engage in a fierce battle, a shocking truth is revealed that deeply affects the X-Men. The two intertwined series collide in a devastating act of treachery as the Krakoan Age draws to an end.
Our thoughts: As Marvel continues to unveil more details about From the Ashes, the future of X-Men is becoming clearer. Despite some mutants seeking refuge in New York, Cyclops is determined to form a team of mutants in Alaska. The penultimate chapter of Fall of the House of X is expected to reveal the harsh reality that awaits mutants, especially with the revelation of a growing army of sentinels.
Wonder Woman #9
Woman Woman #8 sees Diana captured by the Sovereign and under the influence of the Lasso of Lies.
Summary: In this epic battle, Wonder Woman faces off against The Sovereign, the most terrifying villain of all. After being captured by a group of villains, Diana realizes that The Sovereign has been manipulating her since the beginning of their encounter. Now, under the influence of the Lasso of Lies, she must see the world from his perspective. Meanwhile, Trinity’s time travel has unexpected consequences for the future.
Our thoughts: Although the one-off side story of Wonder Woman and Superman in a galactic mall was enjoyable, I am excited to see the main story continue. The recent issue, Wonder Woman #6, showcased an incredible fight between Diana and her most formidable enemies, making it one of the top comics I’ve ever read. Despite not receiving the recognition it deserves, this series has been consistently excellent and is a must-read for anyone even remotely interested in Wonder Woman.
The Amazing Spider-Man #2
Spectacular Spider-Men #2 sees Miles and Peter face the fallout of Jackal’s attack.
About the story: The Spider-Men, Peter Parker and Miles Morales, have been meeting weekly at the Coffee Bean. However, their regular meetings have not provided any clues to the plans of the Jackal. The mysterious events that have been occurring have left them wondering what they all mean. Will they eventually lead to any answers?
Our opinion: The presence of the Jackal poses a looming threat, indicating that there will likely be numerous clones and clone storylines. However, the standout aspect of this title is its noticeably more relaxed and lighthearted tone when compared to Miles and Peter’s individual series. After years of a strained dynamic between the two, it is refreshing to see them working on strengthening their friendship in this book. Additionally, having Humberto Ramos as the artist for Spider-Man is always a highly welcomed choice!
Justice League: Rebirth #1
Batman and Supermen get stuck in the Fifth Dimension in World’s Finest #26
About the story: The danger of the Doom-Mite must not be underestimated! After the shocking events of the BATMAN/SUPERMAN: WORLD’S FINEST 2024 ANNUAL and #25, it is now the responsibility of Mr. Mxyzptlk and Bat-Mite to prove to Batman and Superman that they are not to be taken lightly. The fate of our entire dimension hangs in the balance, and it will take the unlikely team of these two odd characters to save it.
Our thoughts: It may seem like a long time since the teaser for the upcoming journey into the Fifth Dimension, but we have finally arrived. Batman/Superman continues to impress with its entertaining and catchy writing, along with stunning artwork. If you have been enjoying the retro stories and nostalgic feel of this series, the playfulness and eccentricity of characters like Mr. Mxyzptlk and Bat-Mite will surely capture your interest.
