Netflix’s latest film, His Three Daughters, is quickly establishing itself as a dramatic success for the platform, currently boasting a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes.
From intense character studies like May December to comedy hits such as Hit Man, Netflix is focusing on diversifying its library with some of the most widely discussed new films in recent years.
This new drama, His Three Daughters, explores the reunion of three sisters who come back together to support their ailing father. The film delves into themes of shared grief and the bond of sisterhood.
Starring three alumni from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU)—Elizabeth Olsen, Carrie Coon, and Natasha Lyonne—this film showcases powerful performances. Olsen is well-known for her role as Scarlet Witch since 2015, while Coon portrayed Proxima Midnight in Avengers: Infinity War. Lyonne is set to make her MCU debut in the upcoming Fantastic Four movie.
His Three Daughters premiered at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival and is now being released in theaters after its acquisition by Netflix in October 2023.
With its streaming debut set for September 20, 2024, the film has already been recognized as one of the best movies of the year.
Currently holding a flawless score of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, critics are praising its poignant portrayal of grief and family dynamics, as well as the outstanding performances from its cast.
According to Rolling Stone, “His Three Daughters ends up being nothing less than the single best movie you’ll likely see this year.”
Additionally, The Wrap highlights that it is “a mesmerizing study anchored by three incredible leads, each working at the height of their craft. The material is rife for exploration, rich with nuance and discoveries. And the ending packs a wallop.”
Mashable describes the film as “a simple but elegant drama that grapples with the ugliness of grief and comes out with as happy an ending as a shattering death might bring. It’s chaotic, charismatic, and ultimately cathartic. Don’t miss it.”
His Three Daughters will be available on Netflix starting September 20, 2024.
