The long-awaited comeback of Goku and the X Fighters to the small screen, known as Dragon Ball Daima, has finally announced its premiere date.
Despite the passing of Akira Toriyama, Dragon Ball Daima remains one of the most highly anticipated anime of the year. It has been three years since the beloved characters of Goku and his friends have graced our screens in an anime series, since the conclusion of Dragon Ball Super in 2018. However, the anticipation for the new series has only increased in the absence of its creator.
Ever since the announcement of Daima in 2023, there has been a consistent flow of information and now the release date has finally been revealed. Dragon Ball Daima will premiere on October 11, 2024 in Japan with an extended episode, and the entire season has already been completed.
According to Nakajima Yuichi, the Programming Director at Fuji Television, the broadcaster for the TV show in Japan, the news is that Episode 1 will be 10 minutes longer than the rest of the season and that all episodes of Dragon Ball DAIMA have been completed.
Despite being common in the industry, the second part is not typical. The production of anime and manga usually follows strict schedules, often resulting in delays, interruptions, and breaks for creative teams and studios. For example, One Piece takes periodic breaks every few weeks, while shows like My Hero Academia and Jujutsu Kaisen often have a split in their seasons.
By completing all of Daima’s tasks, the risk of potential delays is reduced, barring any public holidays or other unforeseen circumstances. This also suggests that the team responsible for Daima had sufficient time and resources to complete the task at hand, which should be a standard practice.
The experience of watching Daima will be bittersweet, as it marks the final contribution of Akira Toriyama to the franchise. The story follows Goku, Vegeta, and their companions as they are transformed into childlike forms by a mysterious being. Set before Super in the franchise timeline, the production is expected to have a more comedic tone.
It is expected that we will see in October.
